Oxidants vs. Antioxidants

IMPORTANT NOTE: Scientists have recently realized that COVID-19 (as well as many respiratory infections) need to be treated in 2 phases. Phase 1 takes place during the first 2-3 days of infection while symptoms are not that severe. During this initial phase of infection, treatment with Reactive Oxygen Species medicines like chlorine dioxide solution (CDS) / Miracle Mineral Solution (MMS) is appropriate to lower the viral load. However, you should plan to stop using CDS / MMS after the initial 2-3 day period when coughing begins. During Phase 2 of the infection, when coughing begins, it is vital to supplement with Vitamin B3 at 1000-3000 mg per day (500-1500 mg in the morning and 500-1500 mg in the evening). Patients should also be given medicines to counteract the effects of a cytokine storm during this stage. We offer a list of medicinal options at this site to treat a cytokine storm at home.

As an alternative to CDS / MMS, consider using a Methylene Blue, Vitamin C, and NAC protocol for Phase 1 treatment of COVID-19 and then continue with Methylene Blue, vitamin C, and NAC through Phase 2 for COVID-19. Or begin with Chlorine Dioxide for days 2-3 of the initial infection until coughing begins and then switch to Methylene Blue, vitamin C, and NAC.  NOTE: CDS / MMS are safe for use during pregnancy. If you are looking for a cure for cancer during pregnancy (or a cure for another serious disease), be aware that CDS / MMS was studied for safety and effectiveness in pregnant women in Africa who had malaria. It was able to cure malaria without harming either the. mother or the baby.

Many medicines, both old and new, rely on oxidation-reduction reactions to cure infection. If you aren’t a chemist or a biochemist though, Reactive Oxygen Species and any talk of oxidants and reductants might make your head spin. But nonetheless, in an era where patients are learning to distrust their doctors, Big Pharma, and large healthcare corporations that have made profits a higher priority than patient-health and well-being, a discussion of Reactive Oxygen Species Medicine is in order.

But I struggle to find credible information about the chemistry of Reactive Oxygen Species. Even rarer is the biochemistry to explain how these Reactive Oxygen Species behave in a human body. There are many theories, but alas, the politics of Reactive Oxygen Species leads to under-funding by Big Pharmaceutical companies that control the science and the research efforts that might be able to uncover the truth about how ozone and chlorine dioxide / miracle mineral solution actually work inside the body.

So, as someone who has scoured the literature, I can say that in vivo research (research that examines the effects of any given oxidant or antioxidant inside a living body) is sorely lacking. But I’m not daunted by that fact. I use chlorine dioxide (also known as Miracle Mineral Solution or MMS) regularly. I have cured many diseases that have afflicted my own family members and friends by using chlorine dioxide and I thoroughly appreciate this medicine and the ease with which I can get it.

In addition to chlorine dioxide and oxidant medicines, I also use a variety of antioxidants to work through more chronic disease states and symptoms. High dose vitamin C, for example, is often used in combination with chemotherapy to treat cancer (although vitamin C has stronger healthy benefits when used without chemotherapy). And methylene blue is an extremely versatile and valuable antioxidant that can be used to cure anything from chronic pain and depression to COVID-19. Both oxidants (like CDS or ozone) and antioxidants (like vitamin C and methylene blue) have their place in medicine. Indeed, while oxidants like chlorine dioxide may be beneficial in the very early stages of a COVID-19 infection, heavy duty antioxidants have been used successfully by many doctors to cure the COVID Cytokine Storm Syndrome and hemophagocytic lymphohistiocystosis that leads to Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). In these situations, high levels of free radicals and oxidants in the body can lead to an exaggerated immune response. In these situations, you wouldn’t want to add more oxidants to the body in the form of chlorine dioxide.

In other words:

While oxidant medicines like CDS and ozone can help fight a new infection or prevent infection when the body is building antibodies against a pathogen to which it has been exposed, antioxidants like vitamin C and methylene blue keep human tissues strong and electrically energetic. Oxidants can weaken tissues if they are administered for long periods of time and in high quantities. But antioxidants, when given in high quantities may lessen the body’s natural immune response by inhibiting the action of natural Reactive Oxygen Species that are produced by the immune system.

To really reap the benefits of oxidants or antioxidants to treat infection, you need to understand when to use them, how much to use, and for how long.

This is an oversimplification of an extremely complex topic, but the main point that readers need to acknowledge in this discussion is the fact that oxidants and antioxidants are medicines that need to be applied to medicine with critical thinking skills turned on full-blast. It’s extremely unlikely that you’ll seriously hurt yourself in any way using oxidants or antioxidants to treat disease, but if you don’t know how to use these medicines properly, it’s likely you’ll see no effect at all. And if you use oxidants to treat a disease that involves a cytokine storm, it’s vital that you know how to recognize the start of the cytokine storm. When the cytokine storm starts (with COVID-19, the cough represents the start of the cytokine storm), it’s time to stop using the oxidants and switch to antioxidants.

The biggest danger in using oxidants and antioxidants is inactivating them accidentally by combining one or the other with a substance that has an opposing action on the body (combining an oxidant with an antioxidant and vice versa). So it’s wise to acquaint yourself with these medicines prior to becoming seriously ill. Learn how they affect you when you’re in a baseline/normal state of health so that you can recognize normal vs. abnormal or exaggerated effects during illness (a detoxification reaction). It’s important to avoid causing a detoxification reaction during a cytokine storm because the body is already struggling to detox and rebalance itself. So rather than adding to the detoxification bottleneck during a cytokine storm, it’s best to use medicines that work with that specific cytokine reaction, to calm the immune response and restore balance.

Examples:    Scenario 1 - COVID-19: A patient is exposed to COVID-19. After exposure, the patient uses Chlorine Dioxide and DMSO daily (6 drops of sodium chlorite + 6 drops of acid activator --activate for 1 minute, then add 4 ounces of water + 18 drops of DMSO -- administer 2 times per day for 14 days to PREVENT COVID-19). The patient never gets sick because the Chlorine Dioxide kills the virus and the patient’s immune system is able to overcome the virus without ever showing symptoms.

Scenario 2- COVID-19: A patient is exposed to COVID-19. After exposure the patient uses Chlorine Dioxide and DMSO daily (6 drops of sodium chlorite + 6 drops of acid activator --activate for 1 minute, then add 4 ounces of water + 18 drops of DMSO -- administer 2 times per day for 14 days to PREVENT COVID-19). The patient begins to show COVID-19 symptoms on day 5. The patient continues to take CDS. On day 8 (day 3 of showing active COVID infection symptoms), the patient begins to cough. At this time, the patient discontinues the use of CDS and switches to the Methylene Blue, Vitamin C, and NAC Protocol. The patient also begins taking 3000 mg per day of vitamin B3 / Niacin to support the lungs and a normal (as opposed to exaggerated) immune response. NOTE: Patients could begin taking 500 mg of vitamin B3 daily as part of his/her normal routine to support lung health and to reduce the odds of experiencing a deadly cytokine storm during a COVID-19 infection.

Scenario 3 - Dengue and Other Hemorrhagic Fevers: A patient is exposed to Dengue or another hemorrhagic fever such as Ebola. The patient begins taking Chlorine Dioxide daily (6 drops of sodium chlorite + 6 drops of activator --activate for 1 minute, then add 4 ounces of water + 18 drops of DMSO -- administer 3-4 times per day for 14 days to PREVENT Dengue and Other Hemorrhagic Fevers) and continues to take CDS. But when the patient begins to develop a rash, abdominal pain, vomiting, mucosal bleeding, or difficulty breathing, he/she stops taking the CDS and DMSO and switches to methylene blue, vitamin C, NAC, and Carica papaya leaf extract to specifically combat the type of cytokine storm caused by hemorrhagic fevers. The patient also takes 3000 mg daily of vitamin B3 to balance the immune system during the cytokine storm.

There are a variety of oxidants to choose from to kill infectious organisms including chlorine dioxide, ozone, and food grade hydrogen peroxide to name just a few. Self-hackers can choose the oxidant that appeals most to them. But self-hackers also need to be able to understand, at the very least, the limitations of their own understanding of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) Medicine. Or, to put it another way, a person who would like to use oxidants as a cure for infection needs to realize that ROS Medicine is a complex system of medicine. And as with any other system of medicine, it takes years to fully understand how it works, when it works, when to use it, and when to use a different type of medicine. ROS Medicine is a model that requires finesse and understanding. In other words, a person could spend an entire career as a doctor of medicine and offer nothing but Oxidants or Antioxidants (or perhaps enzymes that break down oxidants) to patients and be able to successfully treat most of the diseases that currently afflict humankind. But, as such, it’s impossible to summarize ROS Medicine in one chapter or even in one book. Indeed, this field of medicine is relatively new, so as you work with the medicines like chlorine dioxide as a self-hacker, you need to realize that this is a frontier that has not been thoroughly explored through research, particularly research on real-life human beings.

On the other hand, oxidants and antioxidants have been used by a lot of bio-hackers who have given anecdotal reports of healing that make it worth our time to present this material here.

So any discussion of ROS Medicine, which includes the likes of chlorine dioxide has to start by reminding the reader that, if they choose to use these medicines, to use them with an open mind and not to disregard the basic guidelines provided by experts for each medication. ROS medicines like chlorine dioxide are more fragile than the antibiotic pills that you get at the doctor’s office to treat bacterial infection. But while Chlorine Dioxide will buckle and become useless when mixed with vitamin C, vitamin E, or other antioxidants that are readily found in many foods and supplements, this tiny, somewhat fragile/reactive molecule also has the ability to kill not just bacterial infections, but also viral infections, fungal infections, and even chronic disease states like autism, dementia, and cancer in part by chelating and transporting heavy metals out of the body. Chlorine dioxide (and other oxidants), after all, works at the cellular level like a scalpel, making fine, precise cuts, and passing through cellular membranes with ease to interact directly with DNA or RNA inside the nucleus of human cells some cases, while the antibiotics that you buy at the pharmacy work biochemically in the body more like a chainsaw. Though the chainsaw can still kill infectious microbes, it can also cause damage to our own cells and tissues.

But if you use an oxidant like chlorine dioxide or ozone or hydrogen peroxide to treat an infection, you also need to recognize its potential limitations. Theoretically, there are bacteria and other infectious organisms, for example, that would not respond to these oxidants. The information about oxidant medicines is spotty and contradictory. Some resources say that chlorine dioxide is only attracted to negatively charged microorganisms, but this would exclude all Gram positive bacteria such as Streptococcal or Staphylococcal infections. But actual scientific studies on the disinfectant capabilities of chlorine dioxide as a cleaning agent in hospital settings have shown that it is able to kill both Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. So self-hackers who use chlorine dioxide need to use their critical thinking skills when they experiment with this drinking-water-treatment-turned-medicine. If you take the medicine and it feels like it’s working, take note. If it feels like it isn’t working, switch to a different type of medicine.

Different authors have speculated on the antiviral abilities of chlorine dioxide in vivo and I believe a lot of this speculation is based on chlorine dioxide’s ability to disinfect infected environments. And it may very well be true that this simple molecule can go into the body and dissolve the outer protein envelopes of viruses in the human body just as it does on metal surfaces in hospital rooms. But when you use these medicines, you need to realize that self-hackers, not scientists, not doctors, are the people who are really making the connection between the chemistry of oxidant medicines like chlorine dioxide and their actual effects on the body.

Reactive Oxygen Species Medicine and the use of oxidants requires critical thinking. Don’t attempt to use these medicines as though they were antibiotics that you would get from your doctor as a prescription. They are much more powerful than that, but they are not the same so you can’t use chlorine dioxide according to the same rules you would follow in using antibiotics.  Chlorine dioxide, ozone, and hydrogen peroxide all have antibiotic properties but they do not work like antibiotics in that they have a much broader spectrum of action in the body against not just against viruses and bacteria, but also parasites, and fungi and other types of pathogens. This means that you need to be prepared to have a Detoxification Reaction, especially if you’re new to the use of oxidants as medicines.

Chlorine dioxide performs other functions in the body too. For example, it can chelate heavy metals. This is a valuable function that is beneficial in healing from a number of different diseases from autism to cancer. But chlorine dioxide also stimulates the immune system. White blood cells, after all, release reactive oxygen species as a front line defense against infection. When you take chlorine dioxide, you’re not only sending out a form of immune assistance, but you’re also signaling human cells that there’s an infection that’s being dealt with. According to the Metabolic Theory of Disease, chlorine dioxide has the ability to signal cells that have “shut down” or that are in a state of dormancy to reawaken. This function of chlorine dioxide can be extremely helpful as a way to work with autoimmune diseases like Long Haul COVID, Lupus, and more.

Antioxidants in high doses are less likely to produce a Detoxification Reaction than oxidants in my experience, but there may be exceptions to this rule.

A detoxification reaction often involves symptoms that are similar to a cold or the flu. A big detox may involve vomiting, diarrhea, congestion in the sinuses, or even a fever. And the reason why oxidants often cause detox reactions when people first start using them is because their bodies are full of infectious organisms and toxins that can be removed by the oxidants. If your viral load or bacterial load is high and you use an oxidant like chlorine dioxide to treat an infection of some kind, you may feel sicker at first rather than feeling better. If you feel sicker, this is because your body suddenly has to get rid of a load of dead microorganisms and toxins as quickly as possible via the liver, kidneys, and intestines. The process often gets backed up. If you try to take too much chlorine dioxide, for example, to treat an illness, you might cause a bottleneck at the kidneys or liver where these organs are trying to filter out the dead pathogens from the blood, but they can only work so fat.  The bottleneck or buildup of dead pathogens and toxins in the blood and organs is what causes the symptoms of a detox reaction. Moderation is a key concept to use when working with oxidant medicines like chlorine dioxide.

Obviously, if you develop a COVID-19 infection, influenza, or any type of respiratory infection, you don’t want to cause yourself to develop a strong detox reaction DURING a cytokine storm. That’s why it’s wise to stop taking the chlorine dioxide or other type of oxidant as soon as coughing starts (or rather, as soon as the cytokine storm begins).

Considering the challenges involved in deciding whether to use oxidants or antioxidants may be enough to deter you from trying to use either one, but I encourage you to experiment with these medicines initially when you’re in a healthy state! Oxidants may be able to cure major diseases like hepatitis, Ebola, or Cytomegalovirus. If you’re in a situation where there are no medicines available in conventional medicine (which is increasingly common), oxidants are important allies. But don’t expect for Big Pharma or mass media to provide you with any kind of emotional support through the process of working with oxidants or antioxidants. Visit the Jim Humble MMS forum to read anecdotal information posted by other Chlorine Dioxide users. Be aware that MMS is used as an acronym instead of CDS on Jim Humble’s web site.

An antibiotic pill that your doctor prescribes is likely to kill a very narrow range of microorganisms. So it doesn’t cause the same massive die-off of viruses, bacteria, fungi, parasites that happens when using oxidants like Chlorine Dioxide that kill a wide variety of infectious pathogens all at once that may have been affecting your health negatively for many years. Indeed, an antibiotic pill is likely to be almost obsolete in terms of its ability to kill even the bacteria for which it was prescribed. Chances are that antibiotic will kill more of the beneficial bacteria in your colon than it will the negative bacteria that are causing your illness. The pathogenic bacteria may mutate and successfully figure out how to work around the antibiotic before you even finish the full course of treatment, in fact. And doctors have very little in their arsenal of prescription drugs to offer patients for any viral infection. But an oxidant like chlorine dioxide is different. Chlorine dioxide uses oxygen to kill pathogens and it can kill most pathogens with rare exceptions. But again, you have to remember that those first few times that you use chlorine dioxide or ozone, it may result in a die-off of many different infectious organisms that have been dragging down your immune system for quite some time. So you may feel sicker at first, but your health will be vastly improved after that initial “cleanse” using Chlorine Dioxide.

Doctors have very little in their arsenal of prescription drugs to offer patients for viral infections. There is a myth that there are very few medicines that can be prescribed for viral infections but the COVID pandemic has exposed some of this lie. An oxidant like chlorine dioxide is different than antibiotics that are typically only prescribed for viral infections. Chlorine dioxide will not only kill the pathogen that causes a sinus infection, it will also kill the mycobacterium that causes cancer at the same time. Indeed, people who opt to take chlorine dioxide for COVID may notice their cancerous tumors shrinking. This is great news, but anyone who uses chlorine dioxide needs to remember that those first few times that you use an oxidant medicine like chlorine dioxide or ozone, could result in an epic detox reaction because the oxidant will kill many different infectious organisms that have been dragging down your immune system for quite some time. So you may feel sicker at first, but your health will be vastly improved after that initial “cleanse” using Chlorine Dioxide. Again, moderation is key. Start with a lower dose and slowly increase the dosage over time.

Dr. Isaac Goiz is a doctor in Mexico developed a system of medicine called Biomagnetism. This system of medicine was originally developed by intersecting information from acupuncture with studies that were done by NASA. Biomagnetism uses magnets to treat areas of the body that serve as reservoirs or rather, “safe havens” where viruses, bacteria, parasites, and fungi take refuge and live in a state of relative dormancy for long periods of time. One of the most interesting features of his theories is the fact that all of these infectious microorganisms work together in pairs. Viruses and bacteria support each other’s existence in the body. A virus that wants to live in the lungs may need a specific bacteria that takes up residence in the intestines in order for either one to survive. Each infectious organism has a “pair”, which explains why so many people who get a cold (a virus) end up with a bacterial infection later in the form of a sinus infection, pneumonia, or bronchitis.   Our human bodies are host to many infectious organisms that simply can’t be treated with crude antibiotics. These infectious organisms take up residence in our cells or in hard-to-reach locations that make it impossible for oral antibiotics to reach. This is where oxidant medicines really shine. Combining an oxidant medicine like chlorine dioxide with FDA-approved Dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) helps make this powerful, broad-spectrum oxidant even more powerful by giving it the key to the kingdom. DMSO opens up human cell membranes as well as the cell membranes of other microorganisms to give it admission to whatever cellular environment is most in need of treatment. DMSO easily passes through biofilm and the protective sheath that shields cancerous tumors from the immune system.

Electricity as the Currency in ROS Medicine

Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) Medicine is, at its core, all about electricity and the energy that animates our human bodies. Reduction-Oxidation reactions (also known as Red-ox or Redox reactions), which are fundamental to really understanding how this type of medicine works inside our bodies, involve complex chemistry algorithms that are beyond the scope of this discussion. To really be able to talk about ROS Medicine, you must to delve into research from physics, chemistry, and biochemistry, but if you’re a self-hacker, the main point you need to understand is that if you didn’t major in physics, chemistry, biochemistry, or biology, you need to be sure to follow the protocols that have been developed by the experts. Follow the protocols exactly, including the guidelines for how to use oxidant medicines in order to get good results. Experts can do the research to come up with simple guidelines for how to use ROS Medicine at home, but if you try to use oxidants or antioxidants as though they were nothing but Big-Pharma-style-antibiotics, chances are, they won’t work for you.

The delicate nature of ROS Medicine is part of what makes this type of medicine so powerful. Oxidants and Antioxidants (the basis of ROS Medicine) work their magic through electron exchanges. And electrons are tiny which means that these tiny tokens are able to reach areas of the body that are totally impenetrable to pharmaceutical antibiotics.

While oxidants can be broadly viewed as substances that kill pathogens by subtracting electrons (or electricity/energy) from them, antioxidants often perform their magic by “donating electrons” and by adding energy (in the form of electrons and electricity) to our human cells, especially through mitochondria (the battery of human cells). Sometimes it is valuable to kill infectious pathogens by subtracting electricity from these pathogens (even if this involves subtracting a bit of electricity from our own human cells too). Sometimes it is more valuable to amp up the electricity in our human cells so that our bodies can balance and produce a strong immune response during an infection.

Oxidant Therapies and pH: Chlorine Dioxide and Ozone

Both chlorine dioxide and ozone work best in high pH environments that are alkaline. It is likely that other oxidants work best in high pH environments as well. The higher the pH, the more active the chlorine dioxide and ozone becomes in terms of their oxidant abilities. Chlorine dioxide also works best in cooler environments. Heat has a deactivating effect on chlorine dioxide.   Following the baking soda alkalizing protocol may potentiate the action of oxidant therapy. This is a powerful combination, but it can produce a strong detox reaction. Consider doing Wim Hof breathing as a gentler alternative to using baking soda to alkalize the body. Wim Hof breathing also has the advantage that it helps to balance the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, which is extremely valuable in treating Long COVID.

Download the Living Database Now to Learn More about Cures for Disease

We've recently released the Living Database, the tool that Lydian and I use to store our data when we research cures for diseases. Sometimes we stumble across natural treatments cures for rare diseases in the scientific literature. If we do, we put in the Living Database. Sometimes we find links to surprising scientific data or even anecdotal reports of a cure for diseases that have been dubbed "incurable" or even, in some cases "untreatable" by doctors. And this tool, the AlivenHealthy Living Database allows us to store this information. Now, we've made the database live so our readers can use it to find cures for disease even if we haven't had a chance to write about it yet. The AlivenHealthy Living Database is an excellent tool for healers and body workers or even just for average people to use on family and friends. If you search for a disease or disorder that isn't in our database, this alerts Lydi and I to the fact that someone in the database user pool is looking for that particular disease. If our client load is low and we have time to do research into that disease, we can update the database immediately with information about diseases that interest Living Database users.
