How to Cure H. pylori

Two important tools that can help you get rid of H. pylori are DMSO and Shilajit (Mumijo). DMSO is derived from trees, while Shilajit is an herbal substance that's harvested from rock secretions in the Himalayan and other mountain ranges.

WARNING: SOME TREATMENTS LISTED BELOW CAN CAUSE MISCARRIAGE OR STILLBIRTH. IF YOU ARE PREGNANT, SEEK THE ADVICE OF A KNOWLEDGEABLE HERBALIST BEFORE USING THESE MEDICATIONS.

GERD or Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, motion sickness, migraines, urticaria, and severe morning sickness are related in that they are all associated with infection with Helicobacter pylori. If you suffer from digestive problems or severe headaches, treating yourself for a Helicobacter pylori infection is a good place to start even if you don't know whether you have this infection or not.

If you're suffering with GERD, consider using Quince Syrup or Umemboshi plum with Kudzu to overcome the discomfort.

Below we’ve listed the natural treatments for H. pylori in order of prioritization with the most powerful and important substances listed first. But some of these natural treatments can be combined and would work together synergistically. For example, DMSO is listed first because it has the ability to combine with other substances to penetrate deep into tissues, making some of the herbal treatments below more powerful.

Shilajit, on the other hand, can heal stomach ulcers which is important when dealing with a bacteria like H. pylori. It plays a similar role as DMSO in that it opens cell membranes, but to nutrients rather than other, medicinal substances. Use DMSO and Shilajit while taking at least 1000 mg of vitamin C daily to heal stomach ulcers. Once you successfully heal stomach lining problems, you’ll be in a much better position to cure H. pylori infection.

Dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) to Penetrate H. pylori Biofilm

A substance known as DMSO can be combined with certain medicinal substances delineated below to penetrate H. pylori biofilm. DMSO is FDA approved and it strengthens certain molecular substances when combined with them, but before you use it be sure that you understand how DMSO works and how to use it properly. Below, we talk about how to combine DMSO with certain medicinal substances to make them stronger and to take them directly to the H. pylori infection, bypassing the biofilm that normally protects the infection from being treated.

Shilajit / Humic Extracts / Fulvic Acids / Mumijo

Shilajit, humic extracts, and fulvic acids, also known colloquially as Mumijo can work wonders on stomach ulcers. This substance can be used to cure H. pylori infection in part because it raises stomach pH, lowers gastric acid secretion, and lowers pepsin levels. Studies have shown that Mumijo extract was able to protect and heal the stomach and mucosal damages without causing the side effects that people can expect when using ranitidine, a common stomach ulcer and GERD treatment. It can even stop bleeding ulcers from bleeding. And it has general health benefits in that it can prevent viruses from invading cells, making it impossible for them to reproduce. It has been used to prevent coronavirus and it’s famous as an HIV cure (though typically, it must be used as a comprehensive healing protocol to treat major diseases like HIV or cancer). Asian Mumija contains minerals, proteins, lipids, steroids, alkaloids, amino acids, and carbohydrates. In addition to its use as an H. pylori cure, it is often used for the following health conditions:

  • Neuroprotection
  • Memory improvement
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Anti-oxidant

There are different products on the market that contain Humic Acids and Fulvic Acids or Shilajit. Above is a link to a product that includes a measuring spoon. The Shilajit is a dark-colored, sticky substance that looks shoe-polish. You put it in water and it slowly dissolves into the water so you can drink it. The Shilajit will open cellular membranes to nutrients the cell needs while protecting cells from viral infections (including coronavirus, for example). Or take an aqueous extract of Mumijo (Shilajit, also known as Humic Acids / Fulvic Acids) at 100 mg/kg daily. Drops may be more convenient than Shilajit which takes a few minutes to dissolve. I have always used the Shilajit that must be dissolved in water just because it's hard to get the drops where I live.

Patchouli Essential Oil or Patchouli Alcohol (Pogostemon cablin)

Patchouli (Guang Huoxiang) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine that is also FDA approved for human consumption in section 172.510 as a natural food-additive that is commonly used for flavoring. In Chinese medicine and throughout the world it has been used in the following ways:

  • Strengthens the immune system
  • Improves resistance to bacteria
  • Can control appetite and can naturally cure insulin resistance (which is a symptom of H. pylori infection)
  • Treats skin conditions like acne, dermatits, and dry skin
  • Eases cold symptoms
  • Treats headaches
  • Treats stomach upsets including H. pylori infection and associated digestive issues
  • Controls dandruff and oily hair
  • Relieves anxiety caused by H. pylori
  • Relieves depression caused by H. pylori
  • Antifungal
  • Antibacterial
  • Used as an additive for flavoring foods such as candy, beverages, and baked goods.

There are three different species of patchouli:
  • Pogostemon cablin
  • Pogostemon heyneanus
  • Pogostemon hortensis

Of these, the Pogostemon cablin variety is the one that has been studied in depth for its therapeutic properties.

Patchouli essential oil has been used to cure an H. pylori infection as well as to treat the inflammation it causes in the stomach. In one study examining the effects of this natural H. pylori treatment, the Patchouli Alcohol lowered oxidative stress and increased glutathione levels. It was a significantly protective agent for the stomach lining against the H. pylori bacteria. Studies have shown that its two major chemical constituents, patchouli alcohol and pogostone, contribute to  patchouli essential oil’s strong antimicrobial effects, but there are 26 compounds in this plant that have antibacterial activity.

Treatment with Patchouli Essential Oil should last at least 2 weeks, but 1 month of treatment would be better. Choose a high-quality product that is organic, and 100% therapeutic grade-quality.

Add 10 drops of DMSO to 10 drops of Patchouli Essential Oil and ½ cup of clean, pure, filtered water. Drink this mixture up to 3 times per day.

H. pylori Natural Treatment with Pau d’Arco (Tabebuia impetiginosa)

WARNING: Pau d'Arco can cause miscarriage or stillbirth. Do not use during pregnancy. Pau d’Arco is an amazing plant that can cure all kinds of diseases from cancer to diabetes. And it can be used to cure H. pylori infections as well as stomach cancer. But don’t run out and just buy any old Pau d’Arco supplement or tea that you can find. You need to get the Tabebuia impetiginosa variety of Pau d’Arco (the inner bark ONLY) and it needs to be prepared properly when you make it into a tea (don't get too creative with this process--following the instructions for how to heat the water). Put 2 tablespoons of the dried inner bark with 3 cups of water that is not quite boiling. Simmer it for 20 minutes and then strain it and drink the tea. Drink up to 6 cups of water per day.

Be aware that Pau d’Arco can thin the blood much like the drug warfarin so don’t drink more than the recommended dose (6 cups per day). Drink it slowly and consistently throughout the day.

H. pylori Natural Treatment with Artemisinin (Artemisia annua)

WARNING: Artemisinin can cause miscarriage or stillbirth. Do not use during pregnancy. Artemisinin has gotten a lot of press lately as the natural treatment for coronavirus that’s being used in Tanzania and Madagascar. I only just returned from Tanzania 7 days ago and I can report that it is true. This is the treatment they’re using. The people there are healthy. Some of them have been infected with coronavirus (I spoke to a gentleman who had just tested positive at the PCR clinic where I had my test done in order to travel back to my home in Mexico), but no one is concerned about the virus there because they have an herbal cure for COVID that works: Artemisinin.

But this article is about H. pylori. Nonetheless, it’s an interesting fact so I thought I’d share! As you continue reading, be aware that Artemisinin is a component of the plant Artemisia annua. Artemisinin can be extracted from the Artemisia annua plant. If you decide to use this type of therapy, find a high-quality product that contains high levels of Artemisinin.

Artemisinin, which present in the herb Artemisia annua can be used to cure a wide variety of different diseases through a very simple mechanism. It releases hydrogen peroxide which can then oxidize invading pathogens. This is essentially the same mechanism heals infection when people use MMS/CDS or food-grade hydrogen peroxide to cure diseases. But be aware that if you take Artemisia annua to cure H. pylori, you should not take vitamin C at the same time. Artemisia annua is an OXIDANT THERAPY. Vitamin C, on the other hand, is an ANTI-OXIDANT. So Artemisia annua and Vitamin C would cancel each other out and neither will work to help you cure the H. pylori infection.

Researchers have noted Artemisinin’s superior treatment benefits over clarithromycin and metronidazole. Specifically, this substance is a strong anti-bacterial that works against H. pylori, it retains its ability to function in the acidic environment of the stomach (unlike clarithromycin), and it doesn’t elicit drug-resistance like metronidazole does. It was even able to treat drug-resistant H pylori.

Below is a list of other diseases that can be cured using Artemisia annua:

One of the things to consider in regard to Artemisia annua as an herbal treatment for H-pylori bacteria is the fact that Artemisia annua products are not standardized. Plant materials vary in terms of the amount of medicinal substances they contain. This is often cited as a big pitfall in herbal therapy, but please don’t misunderstand me--I’m not propagating that message. The thing I want for readers to understand is that if they’re treating a major, drug-resistant H. pylori infection or worse, stomach cancer, it might make more sense to use MMS/CDS with DMSO so that treatment can be monitored closely and standardized. The mechanism of action against the H. pylori is very similar between MMS/CDS and Artemisia annua for H. pylori.

BUT REMEMBER: Don’t take vitamin C with either MMS/CDS treatment or Artemisia annua treatment. You’ll cancel out the effects of both treatment strategies if you use both at the same time. But vitamin C is an essential if you wish to never become re-infected with H. pylori. So, if you decide to use an oxidant therapy, you should start with high-dose vitamin C therapy, stop the therapy to take either MMS/CDS or Artemisia annua and then continue afterward with at least 1000 mg of vitamin C daily for the rest of your life.

Carica papaya / Papaya Leaf Extract with DMSO Natural H. Pylori Treatment

WARNING: Carica papaya leaf extract can cause miscarriage or stillbirth. Do not use during pregnancy. Carica papaya extracts have a strong antibacterial activity against Helicobacter pylori. When combined with DMSO in a 1:1 relationship, this medicine can penetrate through the protective biofilm that H. pylori uses to evade medication and the immune system. Use 30 drops of Carica and 30 drops of DMSO water to taste 3 times daily for 1 month.

Carica papaya can also be used to treat the following:

Papaya Leaf Extract (Carica papaya) has the ability to regulate blood platelet formation in the face of infection or disease-states that might work against this important physiological process.  It can be used to treat hemorrhagic diseases and disorders like Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura, Dengue, Yellow Fever, or even Ebola.

Put 30 drops of Carica papaya with 30 drops of DMSO 3 times per day for 14 to 30 days to treat H. pylori at home.

Carica papaya (Papaya Leaf), Azadirachta indica (Neem), Moringa oleifera (Moringa), and DMSO Natural H. pylori Protocol

WARNING: Neem (Azadirachta indica) and Carica papaya can both cause miscarriage or stillbirth. Do not use during pregnancy.

An even stronger natural H. pylori protocol than the one described above combines the potent anti-bacterial action of Carica papaya with two other herbal medications that have shown strong antimicrobial activity against H. pylori. Azadirachta indica, better known as “Neem” is a medicinal plant that’s famous for its ability to cure malaria, but it can also be used to treat H. pylori naturally. Neem is also used to treat the following:

  • Infections
  • Skin diseases
  • Dental problems
  • Syphilis
  • Malaria
  • Leprosy
  • Cancer
Moringa is a well-known cancer cure that’s used regularly by people in Mexico and other Latin American countries. The Moringa tree has the ability to extract nutrients from the soil, so its been studied for its nutritional health-giving effects. It’s like a plant-based multivitamin that can regenerate itself over and over again in poor, developing nations. And it also has the ability to cure cancer and other serious diseases like malaria and H. pylori.

Interestingly, the Moringa plant can be used to purify water and since H. pylori is often transmitted via infected water supplies in both developed and developing nations, this lends credibility to its ability to cure H. pylori infection. Additionally, it offers the following medicinal properties to users:

  • Brings down fevers
  • Reduces muscle twitching
  • Brings down blood pressure
  • Anti-anemic
  • Anti-bacterial
  • Anti-viral
  • Anti-fungal
  • Can cure stomach ulcers caused by either H. pylori or NSAIDs

Create a mixture of 15 drops of Carica papaya, 15 drops of Azadirachta indica, 15 drops of Moringa Oleifera, and 15 drops of DMSO (dimethylsulfoxide--an FDA approved substance that has the ability to penetrate through biofilms and potentiate medicinal substances) with water to taste 3 times per day for 1 month.

Cranberry Juice (Vaccinium macrocarpon)

As in the natural treatment of Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs), drinking cranberry juice can be used to treat H. pylori naturally. Due to its proanthocyanidin content, it has the ability to prevent infectious organisms from adhering to the stomach wall (or the bladder wall, if you’re using it to treat a urinary tract infection). It’s high vitamin C content contributes to its beneficial attributes in the fight against H. pylori too.

Cranberry juice has demonstrated the following anti-H. pylori activity in scientific studies:

  • Prevents adhesion of H. pylori to the stomach wall
  • Prevents the formation of biofilm
  • Anti-oxidant (as a result, cranberry juice should NOT be used with oxidant therapies like CDS/MMS).
  • Anti-cancer
  • Suppresses proliferation of the H. pylori bacteria
  • Kills H. pylori

In studies involving live humans, cranberry juice has shown significant positive effects against H. pylori. Drink twice daily doses of cranberry juice for at least 90 days along with selected other treatments in this article, avoiding oxidant treatments because the anti-oxidant vitamin C in the cranberry juice will cancel out the oxidants in oxidant treatments. If you are following a standard pharmaceutical treatment for H. pylori, studies have shown that cranberry juice can enhance the odds of eradicating H. pylori.

Green Tea

Drinking green tea can significantly decrease the number of H. pylori bacteria in the gut while simultaneously diminishing inflammation. It’s also a good preventative treatment for H. pylori. Green tea has a slightly alkalizing effect on the stomach which may be why it can be helpful in treating H. pylori at home. Gastritis caused by H. pylori tends to be suppressed in a dose-dependent manner, according to research. In other words, the more green tea you drink, the less gastritis you’ll have to contend with. But green tea also has antibacterial effects and the ability to inhibit urease in H. pylori. Some scientists have suggested that doctors should use green tea in conjunction with proton pump inhibitors to improve drug delivery.

Noni Juice (Morinda citrifolia)

WARNING: Morinda citrifolia / Noni Juice can cause miscarriage or stillbirth. Do not use during pregnancy. Noni Juice or Noni Extracts combine well with cranberry juice as a natural H. pylori treatment that can be used with a various of other treatment methods (as long as these treatments are not oxidant therapies because both Noni and Cranberry contain anti-oxidants that could cancel out both the oxidant treatments and the beneficial effects of these juices).

Noni has the following medicinal benefits relevant to the treatment of H. pylori:

  • Anti-inflammatory to reduce swelling in the stomach
  • Anti-cancer
  • Anti-oxidant
  • Anti-bacterial
  • Anti-adhesion of H. pylori
  • Weakly inhibits H. pylori bacteria
  • Probiotic effect allows healthy bacteria to compete with H. pylori (Lactobacillus delbrueckii, Bacillus licheniformis, Leuconostoc mesenteroides).

Liquorice / Licorice Root(Glycyrrhiza glabra Linn): Herbal Treatment for H. pylori

WARNING: Licorice Root can be used during pregnancy, but always strive to use the lowest possible dose of this herb. As such, we recommend that women use one of the other treatments listed here for hyperemesis gravidarum. If licorice root is all that you have available during pregnancy, take less than 1/16th-1/8th of a teaspoon once weekly as a maximum dose Liquorice has been used in traditional Chinese, Indian, and Kampo medicine to treat H. pylori. A product called GutGard, composed of a flavonoid-rich extract of Glycyrrhiza glabra, had an antibacterial action against the infection, but according to research, the H. pylori bacteria was still able to adhere to the stomach wall. Cranberry juice could be used in conjunction with liquorice to reduce adhesion while increasing vitamin C levels at the same time. The dose used in the study was 25 mg/kg for 3 weeks to significantly reduce the number of H. pylori in the stomach.

Monolaurin

Monolaurin is a byproduct of coconut fat that’s derived from lauric acid and glycerin. Coconut oil contains about 50% lauric acid, which is antiviral and antibacterial, but not as strong as monolaurin against H. pylori. The recommended starting dosage is 750 mg of monolaurin 2 times daily. Work up to 3000 mg of Monolaurin 3 times per day for an H. pylori infection.

Aloe Vera

WARNING: Aloe vera taken internally can cause miscarriage or stillbirth. Do not use during pregnancy. Aloe Vera is an alternative to Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) and antacids, but it also has the ability to kill and inhibit the growth of H. pylori including strains drug resistant H. pylori. Use it to treat the infection while soothing an inflamed stomach lining. Studies have shown that Aloe Vera juice was better at healing stomach ulcers than Cimetidine or Omeprazole.

Resveratrol for H. pylori symptoms

According to some research, resveratrol can inhibit H. pylori urease activity and ultimately reduce the symptoms of the infection. Though it certainly can’t cure the infection by itself, resveratrol might be a good medicine to use to reduce symptoms while also helping to overcome the infection using other treatments listed in this article.

Probiotics for H. pylori

Probiotics are living microorganisms that may confer a variety of health benefits to people who take them. Scientific research has shown some promising results by treating H. pylori using probiotics. Probiotics are living microorganisms such as Bifidobacterium that can be used to balance the gastrointestinal flora. Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus casei, Baciluus subtilis, and Weissella confusa all have anti-Helicobacter pylori effects. Though probiotics aren’t the strongest natural medicine for H. pylori, at the very least, a high-quality probiotic can be used to help prevent re-infection with H. pylori after the infection is under control.

Zinc Supplements

Zinc prevents major damage to the gastric mucosa by ethanol and it works as an antioxidant to also benefit the overall health of the stomach lining.

L-Carnosine

L-Carnosine can also benefit the stomach lining by making tissues stronger while preventing the damage that's caused by H. pylori.
