Iodine COVID Cure and Tools for Preventing Respiratory Infection
In the early stages of the COVID epidemic, information about iodine and how to use it to prevent the disease was much easier to find online than it is today. During those first few months, healthcare workers were told to do a 30 second gargle followed by the use of nasal spray with Povidone Iodine to prevent the disease and this protocol was surprisingly effective. But where did this information go? And why wasn’t the general public encouraged to use the same protocol to diminish infection rates?
Unfortunately, in order to answer those questions, we have to delve into business and politics and by the time we finish discussing these problems, there won’t be time or energy leftover to talk about how to use iodine to prevent COVID-19. So let’s skip the controversial politics and delve into the use of iodine to prevent respiratory infection itself. This is one of the most important medicines that you need to know about to keep yourself healthy and free of all respiratory infections such as COVID, influenza, and the common cold.
Lugol’s Iodine for Respiratory Infection: What You Need to Know
Lugol’s Iodine is an aqueous solution that contains molecular iodine with potassium iodide. These two forms of iodine (molecular iodine and potassium iodide) feed the essential iodine requirements of the thyroid gland and the reproductive organs. If you are deficient in iodine, your thyroid gland will not function properly, which will lead to problems with metabolism and weight gain along with a host of other whole-body health problems that are determined by your personal constituency and physiology. In addition to thyroid gland dysfunction, iodine deficiency will also cause reproductive hormone issues which, again, result in whole-body health problems that are often mistaken for other types of diseases and syndromes.
Discussions about iodine and its value in treating COVID and cancer and other diseases are complicated by the problem of bromine and fluorine. But before I talk about the role of bromine and fluorine in causing iodine deficiencies, let’s talk first about iodine deficiency and what happens when the body is deficient in iodine. Once you understand the role of iodine in the body, you’ll begin to understand why Lugol’s iodine is on the World Health Organization’s List of Essential Medicines and why doctors in the early 1900’s iodine was one of the most prescribed medications that was used to treat a wide-range of disorders with great success.

Bromine and Fluorine: Two Trojan Horses That Hijack Health and Well-Being
I spend a lot of time talking about bromine and fluorine. These two elements on the periodic table complicate the iodine deficiency picture considerably because they masquerade as iodine in the body. Both bromine and fluorine are in the same family of chemical elements as iodine, which means that they interact with cells in the body as though they are iodine. But bromine and fluorine behave differently in the body than iodine. And once these two substances lodge themselves in the body, they quietly downgrade a person’s health and their immunity bit-by-bit, slowly over time. They sap energy out of cells and they do a coup on the metabolic system by hurting the thyroid gland and disrupting reproductive organs.Fluorine / Fluoride
Most Americans know that there’s fluoride in the water supply in most states. About 25 countries of the world fluoridate water supplies. And the people of these countries are told that the fluoride is good for their teeth. As with all things related to chemistry, the reality of fluoride for dental health is pretty complex. And if you aren’t a chemist and if you don’t have all sides of the Fluoride Story, you’re ill-equipped to argue one way or another. But in either case, if there’s fluoride in the water that you drink or that you shower in, if there’s fluoride in your toothpaste or in your mouthwash, you need to know that this fluoride is kicking iodine out of the body. The fluoride that you put in your mouth every day when you brush your teeth gets absorbed by the mucous membranes in the mouth and this fluoride ends up in your thyroid gland. And once lodged there, it disrupts your metabolism and makes it hard for you to lose weight. This fluoride can make it hard for you to think clearly, concentrate, or even stay awake during a normal day. Bromine and bromide are similar, but even more insidious than fluoride. Though most developed countries have outlawed the use of bromide as an insecticide, the United States has decided to allow Big Ag to continue spraying fields with ethyl bromide. This means that there’s bromide in the air that you breathe if you live in the U.S. There’s bromide in citrus drinks like Mountain Dew, Fresca, citrus-flavored bottled drinks, and Gatorade (in the form of Bromated Vegetable Oils or BVOs). There’s bromide on furniture, carpets, mattresses, in plastic computer boards, and children’s pajamas (it is sprayed on them as a flame retardant). Bromide is found in certain medications such as anesthetics, inhalers, and nasal sprays. Today, hot tubs and swimming pools are often disinfected with bromide rather than chlorine because bromide “burns the eyes less than chlorine”.There are trace amounts of bromide in some flours and bread products. And while the United States once fortified bread with iodide prior to the 1980’s (when the obesity epidemic officially took hold), today, it allows manufacturers’ to use bromide instead of iodine to ensure that the bread is soft and springy. When the U.S. stopped iodine fortification of bread products, all hell broke loose health-wise in the population with the obesity epidemic, autoimmunity, and reproductive organ cancer rates and it’s little wonder why. Not only did the U.S. population no longer have a good source of daily iodine (salt is a terrible carrier for iodine---the iodine dissolves from the box just days after opening), it also was being inundated with bromide (which competes for iodine receptors in the body and is known to cause extreme weight gain and brain fog among other things).

One of the most important tasks that Lugol’s Iodine supplements can do for a person is kick bromide and fluoride out of the thyroid glands and the reproductive glands to make it possible for these vital glands to work properly again. Once the thyroid gland and reproductive organs have a supply of iodine again, the body rebalances in a major way. Immunity is substantially improved. Mood problems often resolve themselves and people have normal levels of energy and the ability to concentrate and overcome challenges.Lugol’s iodine, when it is present in adequate quantities for normal human functioning, can help the body ward off respiratory diseases like COVID-19, flu, or the common cold by being present in mucus membranes, on the skin, in the eye fluids, etc. It only takes a tiny amount of iodine to kill COVID-19 viruses, for example. Lugol’s Iodine Summary:
There are two ways to take Lugol’s iodine for COVID and other respiratory illnesses every day:Iodoral: Start with the 12.5 mg dose and increase that amount weekly or bi-weekly until you’re taking 50 mg of Iodoral per day.
Lugol’s Iodine Aqueous Solution: You can start with 1 drop of 2% Lugol’s Iodine in liquid form per day. Put it in water and drink it or put it on your skin. If you have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, fertility problems, cancer of any kind, weight problems, difficulty swallowing, etc., put the liquid iodine on the skin overlying the area affected. Work up to a dose of 20 drops of 2% Lugol’s Iodine daily.
Taking either Iodoral or liquid Lugol’s Iodine will improve your general health and your ability to fight off all coronaviruses as well as other types of viruses, bacteria, and fungal infections including colds, RSV, flus, and COVID-19. But remember, during the initial detox period, you may feel ill. You may even feel like you have the flu. This is part of the bromide and fluoride detox process. Lugol’s Iodine can be used with DMSO to treat COVID-19. This treatment works even against the Delta variant. Combine 5 drops of liquid Lugol’s iodine with 10 drops of DMSO in water. It’s an antiseptic that’s used for wound disinfection and doctors can also use this substance to wash their hands before surgical procedures. It is not to be taken internally, but Povidone-Iodine has been used by healthcare workers as a gargle (that is spit out) and as a nasal spray to specifically protect the throat and nasal membranes from infection with COVID-19 and other respiratory diseases.Though you can use Lugol’s iodine as a gargle and as a mouthwash to prevent COVID-19, it won’t work as well as Povidone Iodine for this purpose because the Povidone in Povidone Iodine slowly releases the iodine over time to create a protective shield in the throat and in the nose. But Lugol’s iodine can boost your general health and your general resistance toward COVID-19 and Povidone Iodine can’t do that. Povidone Iodine shouldn’t be taken internally. Povidone iodine also doesn’t contain potassium iodide to feed the thyroid gland. The thyroid gland specifically craves the potassium iodide in Lugol’s iodine so if you have cancer, mood problems, weight problems, fertility issues, or low immunity, Lugol’s is an important medicine for you. You can use Povidone Iodine too, but not in the same way and not for the same reasons that you would use Lugol’s Iodine.
How to Use Povidone Iodine to Prevent COVID-19:
Early on in the pandemic, doctors recognized the utility of Povidone Iodine in preventing COVID. Iodine gargles and nasal sprays were used by dentists, doctors, and nurses to prevent the disease. A technical report demonstrated that people could increase their iodine intake within safe levels to help prevent the spread of COVID. This report shows conclusively that raising iodine intake [through supplementation with liquid Lugol’s iodine or Iodoral as discussed above or through diet] within safe levels will fully supply the body with the amount that is required to fight COVID in three ways:
- By providing a protective shield of iodine that’s available on the skin
- By providing a protective shield in the mucus membranes of the nose and mouth

The study below combines iodine with fulvic acid, another important anti-viral that we’ve written about in terms of its ability to help patients overcome serious viral infections like HIV, cancer, and herpes.
