How to Heal the Brain from Autism / How to Heal Autistic Burnout
NOTE: If you aren't familiar with the autonomic nervous system, please click here to read a bit more about what this system is and what it does. The autonomic nervous system and the endocrine system work together to help our human bodies interface with the external world. When these two systems become imbalanced, we need some form of therapy that goes beyond what conventional medicine can offer. Therapies that heal the autonomic nervous system and the endocrine system have to acknowledge the fact that these two systems administer “doses” of electrical impulses / energy, hormones, or neurotransmitters into the body using rhythm, timing, and duration. Both the autonomic nervous system and the endocrine system must orchestrate a sort of music involving notes of dopamine, or rests of melatonin that happen at exactly the right moment, at the proper tempo, crescendo, and volume to synchronize with the music of the external world (e.g. sunrise, sunset, temperature, climate, weather, social surroundings, etc.). There are no pills or treatments in conventional medicine that work with the music of nature. There are no treatments that seek to restore the complexity of autonomic nervous system or endocrine system synchrony in order to heal disease.Conventional medicine can offer a sustained release pill or a surgery or some other treatment, but there is no music in conventional medicine that can help a patient re-sync with nature if the body has been overwhelmed with some form of trauma. Recall that trauma might be biological such as a serious infection or a series of too many vaccines administered within close succession. Trauma may also be emotional including things like birth trauma (for mother or child), grief and loss, terrifying events during which a person feels powerful, the experience of war, or any type of childhood abuse. A body that is overwhelmed by a big trauma or multiple small traumas can shut down partially and go out of sync with the external world. For example, a body that is not releasing something like cortisol at the proper moment (though it may be releasing the proper quantity of cortisol) may look and seem very ill. The issue though, in this hypothetical cortisol situation, is not about quantity, but rather, timing, duration, and the sync-ing up of cortisol release with the timing of specific events and situations in the external world (sunrise, sunset, etc.).
People often compare ASD and jetlag because severe jetlag causes a person to feel really ill, exhausted, and apathetic, depressed, or anxious. If a person had severe jetlag that was chronic and untreatable, eventually that person would behave much like someone with autism. Jetlag is a de-syncing of the endocrine system and autonomic nervous system with the external world. The body doesn’t know what time it is and it doesn’t know when to release hormones and neurotransmitters that make the body feel hungry, tired, restful, motivated, etc. It takes up to a week or longer for the body to adjust to extreme time zone changes to overcome jetlag, but in a child with ASD, trauma, toxicities, and sometimes infectious pathogens overwhelming their bodies, these problems must be removed and released before the child’s endocrine system and autonomic nervous system are able to function properly again.

Each of these therapies adjusts the autonomic nervous system and/or the endocrine system to help the body re-sync with nature. Though a child with autism may need other types of treatment as well, including nutritional therapy, often, without autonomic nervous system healing and efforts to rebalance the endocrine system, the possibility of healing ASD is much more challenging. Autism and ASD challenge parents and caregivers who, like their children, become distanced from nature and circadian rhythms. Click here to read about how moonlight exposure impacts the endocrine system, specifically the reproductive organs. Also note that light therapy and exposure to different wavelengths of light can rebalance the autonomic nervous system and endocrine system. If you are a caregiver for an ASD child, you need to receive treatments to rebalance your autonomic nervous system and endocrine system as well. When a person works closely with ASD children in the home, there are many sleepless nights and interrupted relaxation states that cause the body to stop syncing up with nature. Caregivers of ASD kids need to actively manage this problem in order to help their kids sync up with the external world because a parent who is not synced up with the natural world won’t be able to even notice that their kids are not synced up either let alone treat and help their child overcome this problem.
