How to Use Mucuna Pruriens as an Herbal Remedy for Parkinson's Disease, ADHD, Addiction, Mental Health Issues and More...
The following supportive nutrients need to be administered along with Mucuna pruriens to ensure that this medicine is converted into dopamine in the body. Mucuna pruriens is an herbal treatment for Parkinson's disease, ADHD, addictions, depression, anxiety, and a variety of other neurological issues. In order to get the most out of supplementing with Mucuna pruriens as a treatment for these and other neurological diseases, it's important to take the supportive nutrients that we talk about below to ensure that the body can make the enzymes and cofactors necessary to use the Mucuna properly.
Vitamin B100 Complex -
Vitamin B100 complex capsules can be taken as 1 dose daily by adults.
In children, it can be hard to find a complete B complex vitamin that contains enough of each of the essential B vitamins to be worth using. Many of the kids B complex vitamin products contain only a few of the B vitamins or they contain such low doses that they won’t be helpful to kids with ADHD or other mental health issues. Consider giving your child ¼ to ½ of your adult vitamin B100 complex in a smaller capsule each day as an affordable option for dosing children with the supportive nutrients. Add the vitamin B powder from an adult pill at the appropriate dose to a smoothie or to a tablespoon of honey for administration.
One of the most important B vitamins that is absolutely essential in the conversion of L-dopa into dopamine is vitamin B6. Adults should get at least 100 mg of vitamin B6 daily. Children over the age of 16 should also receive 100 mg of vitamin B6. Kids who are ages 12-15 should get 75 mg per day. Ages 9-12 should get 50 mg per day. Ages 6-8 should get 25 mg per day. Zinc Glycinate-
Administer 130 mg of zinc glycinate daily in adults and in children ages 16 years and up. In children between 10-15 years of age, administer 100 mg of zinc glycinate daily. In children ages 6-9 years, administer 60 mg of zinc sulfate. In children aged 1-4 years, administer 10 mg of zinc glycinate.
Iron / Ferrous Gluconate -
There are different forms of iron that can be used to supplement the diet in children and adults.
In adults, administer the ferrous gluconate form of iron at a dose of 10 mg per day.
In kids, administer carbonyl iron at a dose of 9 mg for ages 2-3 years. For ages 4 years and up administer 18 mg of carbonyl iron.

Vitamin C / Ascorbic Acid -
In adults, administer 6000 mg of vitamin C daily in divided doses (1500 mg 4 times throughout the day).
Administer 1000 mg daily in children ages 10 and up in divided doses (250 mg 4 times throughout the day is ideal). In children ages 5-10 years, administer 400 mg per day in 4 divided doses (100 mg 4 times throughout the day). In children ages 3-5 years, administer 240 mg of vitamin C daily (60 mg 4 times daily). In children ages 1 and up, administer 100 mg daily (25 mg 4 times throughout the day).
Both children and adults can take ascorbic acid powder with water and stevia or in smoothies.

Magnesium -
We usually encourage our adult clients to take magnesium glycinate at a dose of 300-600 mg per day or magnesium malate at a dose of 1000 mg per day. If you have gallbladder issues, liver issues, digestive problems, or gallstones, take magnesium malate to dissolve stones, heal the liver, and support digestive health.
Children should be given pure Magnesium Citrate at a dose of 100 mg for ages 1-4 years, 200 mg for ages 4-10 years, 300 mg for ages 10-14 years, and 400 mg for ages 14 years and up.
Fat-soluble Vitamins and the Omega Fatty Acids -
The omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids are important nutrients for building the brain and keeping the nervous system healthy. We recommend that people take a cod liver oil supplement that has no added vitamin D at a dose of 1-2 teaspoons per day. Children can take ½ -1 teaspoon daily while adults should take 1-2 teaspoons per day.
If you are allergic to fish or seafood, choose a high-lignan flax seed oil as an alternative to cod liver oil.

Lugol’s iodine 2%
Lugol’s iodine contains both molecular iodine and potassium iodide. This nutrient substance is vital for the health of all systems of the body and it plays a major role in mental health.
Lugol’s iodine is so important for health that we wrote an entire book on the topic of what it does and how to use it properly, but if you’re just wanting to get started with your Mucuna pruriens protocol, simply work with low-dose iodine for now (one drop of Lugol’s 2% daily for kids, 3 drops daily for adults).
For an adult, begin with 1 drop of Lugol’s iodine 2% applied topically to the wrist daily. Increase by 1 drop weekly until you’re taking 4 drops per day.
For a child ages 1 to 10 years, administer 1 drop of Lugol’s iodine 2% daily. For ages 10 years+, administer 2 drops of Lugol’s iodine 2% daily.
The goal is to increase to 20 drops daily in adults and 1 drop daily per year of a child’s age until they turn 18 (when they can begin administering 20 drops daily as adults).

For Those with Thyroid Issues:
If you have autoimmune thyroiditis, hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, Grave’s disease, Hashimoto’s, or even just abnormal thyroid hormone levels, it is essential that you take the Mucuna supportive nutrients in addition to the following nutrients for 2 months before you begin to give yourself doses of Lugol’s iodine.
If you have thyroid issues of any kind or even just the threat of potential thyroid issues on the horizon (for example, abnormal lab results), it’s important that you prime your thyroid gland to be able to properly receive the iodine that will heal this gland.

Essential Oils for Thyroid Health
The essential oils below can be combined together with a teaspoon of organic hexane-free castor oil for skin-application daily. Vitamin B2 and Vitamin B3, and L-Tyrosine Prep Dosing for Lugol’s Iodine Supplementation in Hyperthyroidism and Hypothyroidism
In order to safely begin taking Lugol’s iodine when you have a thyroid issue, you need to prime the body with certain nutrients for 2 weeks to 2 months to prevent the thyroid gland from becoming irritated after years of iodine deficiency. If you have any thyroid issue at all, be sure to take vitamin B2 at a dose of 400 mg per day along with vitamin B3 at a dose of 500 mg per day for at least 2 months before beginning supplementation with Lugol’s iodine to heal the thyroid gland.
Vitamin B3
Vitamin B3 / niacin can cause flushing when you take it at the 500 mg dose. If this is uncomfortable for you, open the capsules and put them in water to drink the niacin throughout the day in lower doses that cause less of a flush. Your body will slowly adjust to the niacin and you’ll stop flushing at a low dose. Note that for those with arthritis or other chronic pain issues, niacin can open the blood vessels and reduce pain naturally during a flush.
Administer 500 mg of vitamin B3 daily for adults. For kids, administer one-quarter to one-half of this dose depending on their size in relation to an adult.
Vitamin B2
People who are having thyroid issues need big doses of vitamin B2 to be able to process the iodine adequately. As an adult, take 400-500 mg daily of vitamin B2 (note that your vitamin B100 complex supplement will contain 100 mg of vitamin B2). Give your child one-quarter to one-half of a 400 mg capsule (100-200 mg) if the child is smaller than an adult.
L-Tyrosine -
Take 2000 mg of L-tyrosine daily (in 4 divided doses of 500 mg each) to provide plenty of this amino acid for the production of thyroid hormones. Children with thyroid issues should take one-quarter to one-half of this dose depending on their size in relation to an average-sized adult.
