Mitragyna speciosa's Mood Balancing Effects

Mitragynine, Speciociliatine, and Corynantheidine all act as anti-depressants in scientific studies. Scientists believe that these particular substances in kratom act on serotonin receptors and adrenergic receptors to regulate mood and relieve depression as well as anxiety.

As an herbal anti-depressant, kratom works on many levels. Depression is associated with inflammation in the body and kratom’s anti-inflammatory effects are therefore beneficial both in terms of physical as well as emotional health. Mitragynine produces effects on the nervous system as well as the endocrine system, impacting the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis in a balancing way that can improve mood and reduce depression. Lower doses may, in some cases, be more effective for treating depression depending on the patient's profile.

Kratom can also be used as an anti-anxiety herb. In addition to calming mental activity, kratom also calms the body and relieves muscle tension. Red vein and yellow or gold kratom are the most effective at treating anxiety.

Trauma is often an underlying issue that can cause depression and anxiety. Trauma builds up in the autonomic nervous system and in order to overcome depression and anxiety in a more permanent way, trauma-informed therapies are often necessary. Kratom can help patients with depression feel enough relief to be able to be able to do trauma-informed therapies like Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing / EMDR, alpha-theta therapy, or guided meditation that is more body-oriented and less talk-oriented. Kratom has a balancing effect on the autonomic nervous system that can help patients feel safer in regard to the feelings that they encounter which opens up new opportunities for healing.

Depression symptoms tend to respond better to doses below 5 grams of kratom per day.

As an anti-anxiety herb, kratom works through opioidergic and adrenergic effects to calm the mind and the body. As an anti-anxiety herb, kratom may need to be administered in doses above 3-5 grams per day.
