Antidiabetic Effects / Metabolic Disease Treatment

In Borneo, kratom is used traditionally to manage diabetes. It is particularly beneficial when administered with meal to lower blood glucose levels after eating.

Kratom is a plant that has been studied for its effects on glucose and lipid metabolism. Mitragynine, which is found in kratom, has alpha-glucosidase inhibition activity that slows glucose absorption after meals. Several substances in the whole plant material inhibit alpha-glucosidase and pancreatic lipase including mitragynine, corynantheidine, corynoxine, and speciocillatine.

Lydi and I have personally worked with clients face-to-face who were able to reduce their insulin administration as a result of regular, calibrated kratom administration. As an antidiabetic herb, kratom not only reduces blood sugar levels following meals, but it can also help reduce pain due to diabetic neuropathy.

As an herbal remedy for diabetes, kratom should be administered in small doses at first to observe how it affects blood sugar levels. Increase the dose slowly. Note that in Borneo, kratom is administered for diabetes by chewing the leaves, brewing them as tea, or even by smoking them.  Kratom works best when combined with a ketogenic diet (make sure you are following the correct keto diet and not a pop-version of the diet, which does not work) and Peganum harmala therapy. It can also be combined with baobab and insulin plant as well.

Kratom for Diabetes and Obesity

The green and red vein Thai kratom varieties have been specifically found to help treat obesity and diabetes. These Thai strains have been shown to decrease BMI in overweight individuals, as well as to reduce blood triglyceride and LDL cholesterol levels, in people who took kratom regularly. Research demonstrates that mitragynine, the most prevalent alkaloid in kratom, may effectively inhibit the lipase enzyme – quercetin and rutin, more well-known alkaloids also found in kratom, also have lipase-inhibition properties. All of these alkaloids have variable inhibition of other specific enzymes as well, including alpha-glucosidase.

Studies have shown that kratom can inhibit absorption of glucose and of fatty acids, which partially explains why this herb may be relevant as a treatment for both diabetes and for obesity.
