Uncoupling protein-1 / UCP-1 is a special protein that can move a positively charged proton against a concentration gradient in mitochondria to prevent the use of that proton for the production of ATP and instead use it to produce heat-energy. But in addition to UCP-1, brown fat also produces adipokines such as adiponectin which prevents liver injury and liver-cell death. Essentially, activation of brown fat and the conversion of white fat to brown fat, prevents fatty liver disease from developing. Cold exposure therapy and herbal treatments that activate brown fat can also be useful as a natural cure for fatty liver disease.Resources:
