Alternative Medicine and Herbal Remedies for Giardia Self-Treatment at Home
Years ago, I had a friend who was very committed to going the conventional medicine route in terms of the treatment of Giardia. This friend had lived in a tent for a little while and she'd been a refugee. At one point, she contracted a Giardia. When she was in her early 40s, she developed shingles, a disease that often doesn't show up until people are much older and usually when they're in an immunocompromised state or a state of emotional stress. I ventured the theory that the Giardia infection was hijacking her immune system, but she wasn't willing to consider such a thing. Nonetheless, research does show that Giardia can cause these kinds of issues as an infection that is not full-blown but latent for many years in the body.
Below are several home remedies for patients with Giardia who have tried everything in conventional medicine to overcome this disease. Though some of the medications below are pharmaceuticals that may not be available to everyone, other treatments are available almost everywhere in the world. In our book about parasite treatments, we discuss the use of Chlorine Dioxide Solution / Miracle Mineral Supplement as a treatment that my daughter used to overcome Giardia after she drank non-potable water in Myanmar. This treatment did work for her to overcome the infection, but like many other people she developed sequelae and whole body pain later on that required treatment with things like Nicotiana rustica and Kratom.
Ivermectin is another medication that can be administered to overcome giardiasis, however, there are drug resistant strains of Giardia because of ivermectin over-use. Nonetheless, ivermectin works by triggering the death of Giardia protozoa. It elevates reactive oxygen species and it provokes DNA fragmentation, as well as arrests of trophozoites in the S phase of the cell cycle.
Ivermectin is a drug that’s become popular because it can treat a lot of different diseases, but it can also be over-used to the point of producing drug-resistance.
Ivermectin works, at least in part, through its effects on the nicotinic receptors in parasites. But ivermectin can produce drug-resistant Giardia protozoa. Nicotiana rustica is natural, herbal treatment for Giardia that also works by activating nicotinic receptors that paralyze the parasite. Nicotiana rustica can be administered daily long-term without risk of producing drug-resistant strains of Giardia.
Most of our readers do self-treatment at home so let me explain something regarding the prescription drug quinacrine, something that a doctor might prescribe for Giardia. Quinacrine, (like chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine, and mefloquine) is one of many synthetic quinine derivatives. Quinine is a naturally occurring substance found in Cinchona trees, in particular, the Cinchona officinalis tree. Quinine is effective against a broad spectrum of different parasites from malaria to Giardia to intestinal worms, and more. While it might be hard for some patients to get a quinine prescription, Cinchona officinalis contains quinine and it can be administered safely and easily to both adults and children at home.
All of the synthetic derivatives of quinine (including quinacrine) are inferior to quinine, the natural substance found in Cinchona trees. So, if you’re doing self-treatment with the proper dose of Cinchona bark at home, you’ll probably have better success at treating Giardia. Quinacrine (as well as certain other quinine synthetic derivatives like mefloquine) produce severe psychiatric issues in some patients. Better to work with the whole herb, Cinchona officinalis for Giardia as it is far more effective and it produces hardly any side effects during treatment.
Patients should combine a Cinchona officinalis decoction (at a dose of 0.25 grams per kilogram of the patient’s body weight for both adults and children) with Artemisia annua tea (which must be made fresh daily) at a dose of 5 grams for adults and 2.5 grams daily for children under the age of 5 years to get rid of Giardia.
Administer the Cinchona-Artemisia remedy for 4 to 6 weeks.
