N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) as a Cure for Emphysema
Scientific studies have increasingly looked at the role of apoptosis (programmed cell death) as the cause behind lung destruction in emphysema and COPD. To avoid abnormal, early cell death in lung tissues, some scientists have experimented with using N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) as a powerful antioxidant that protects lung cells.
In animal models, NAC had a significant protective effect on lung cells such that the animals with emphysema and COPD experienced a much lower rate of lung cell death while taking this medication. In other words, NAC was able to significantly reduce lung damage that causes the symptoms of emphysema.
Patients who wish to use NAC as a cure for emphysema or COPD can either nebulize with Acetylcysteine or they can take NAC orally as a supplement. Some patients choose to do both. NAC as a Cure for Emphysema
NAC is a supplement that can be used with systemic enzyme therapy (serrapeptase and nattokinase) to detoxify and heal the lung tissues. Scientifically, NAC, Acetylcysteine, or Cysteine can all diminish lung damage to slow the progression of emphysema. They work in part by reducing VEGF secretion and the expression of VEGFR2 protein expression as well as cellular death in the lung alveoli.
