Gotu Kola / Centella asiatica Supplement
Gotu kola is sometimes called the “Student Herb” because of its ability to help treat mental fatigue and enhance focus. It is used as a treatment for addiction to help recovering addicts feel more balanced during the daytime hours, and also to promote sleep during the night. Centella asiatica can be used to treat the following:
- Reduces anxiety
- Enhances memory
- Increases wakefulness
- Promotes focused relaxation
- Reduces the “startle response” (it relaxes the body and mind)
This supplement is in the form of a capsule. Take 1 capsule per day, ideally in the morning. Gotu kola should only be taken continuously for a period of 2 weeks. After taking this supplement for two weeks, stop taking it for at least one week. After taking a one week break, you may continue to take the Gotu kola for another two weeks if you wish.
Some people prefer to take gotu kola in the form of a tincture, like this one from Hawaii Pharm.
Avoid Gotu kola during pregnancy, especially during the first trimester. According to Ayurvedic medicine, Gotu kola is safe for breastfeeding mothers, although prolonged use is not advised.
