Butterbur / Petasites japonicus (50mg) Supplement
Description
Description
Butterbur (Petasites japonicus) is native to east Asia and is also known as sweet coltsfoot. This plant is a particularly effective remedy for the treatment of migraines and headaches associated with COVID-19, influenza, or the common cold. Both the American Headache Society and the Canadian Headache Society gave this herb surprisingly high ratings for the treatment of headaches and migraines.
Besides being a headache remedy, butterbur has also traditionally been used to treat asthma symptoms and respiratory infections, and can also help relieve inflammation in the sinuses and nose. It also has a neuroprotective effect on the brain and may help decrease instances of cough over time.
The dosage of butterbur is important to follow. This supplement can be used for all ages according to the dosing information listed below:
- For children (ages 6-9 years of age) – 50mg – 75mg, twice daily
- For older children and adolescents (ages 9-17 years of age) – 150mg, twice daily
- For adults (ages 18+) – 150mg, twice daily
Here is another butterbur supplement we recommend for adults, adolescents, and older children.
Pregnant women should not take butterbur as it may cause birth defects. It should also be avoided by women who are currently breast feeding.
NOTE: Butterbur is an antioxidant and therefore should not be used at the same time as MMS/CDS or other oxidant medicines.
