Best Herb for Herpes / HSV-1 and HSV-2: Houttuynia cordata

If you’ve never heard of Houttuynia cordata (also known Yu Xing Cao in Traditional Chinese Medicine), this is an herb that’s worth learning about. It has some “Wow Factor” in terms of its ability to treat and cure HSV-2 and also HSV-1, which is why we chose to include a full write-up about it. But that’s not all, if you end up working with Houttuynia cordata as an herbal remedy for HSV, you’ll benefit from having it in your medicine cabinet during flu season or when COVID starts going around again. Indeed, if you suffered from heart inflammation due to COVID vaccine administration, consider working with Houttuynia cordata. It has the ability to not only kill COVID (and herpes), but also heal the heart after the COVID jab.

Houttuynia cordata is an herbal remedy for Lyme disease, but it can also heal the pancreas to help people overcome diabetes and cancer at the same time. There’s some logic to what’s going on here if you think about the relationship between autoimmune diseases like diabetes and pathogens like coxsackievirus (the pathogen responsible for hand, foot, and mouth disease), hepatitis B, cytomegalovirus, and more. Diabetes and coxsackievirus are related in that scientists have found that infection with the coxsackievirus is correlated with insulin resistance. Houttuynia cordata can kill coxsackievirus and as well as cytomegalovirus, which can, in theory, cure diabetes in those who are infected with one of these pathogens. Houttuynia cordata is a plant-medicine that is widely used in Asian and Southeast Asian countries. It’s an herbal remedy for HSV infection that works through several different mechanisms of action. It is especially useful in the early stages of HSV-1 and HSV-2 infection, but it has powerful effects against the herpes virus at all stages of the illness. Houttuynia cordata is one of several herbs that can treat acyclovir-resistant HSV-1 naturally, for example. It should be administered religiously over the course of a longer period of time (6 months to a year) for best results.

Big Pharma is currently funding a great deal of research into Houttuynia cordata to try to isolate component medicinal substances from the plant in order to produce a drug that will treat herpes, but not cure herpes. But Houttuynia cordata is a powerful and effective herbal cure for herpes that’s available right now to anyone who wishes to use it. The whole herb contains a long list of medicinal substances that work through different mechanisms of action to make it possible for patients to overcome herpes infection naturally. Hot water extracts of Houttuynia cordata are the recommended format of treatment for those who wish to cure herpes naturally.

This is an herbal remedy that blocks the herpes virus from binding to human cells to prevent penetration at the beginning of a herpes infection. It also suppresses viral replication and blocks viral gene expression. Studies into Houttuynia cordata as an herbal remedy for encapsulated viruses that are similar to herpes have revealed additional mechanisms of action including:

  • Inhibition of 3C-like protease / 3CLPRO
  • Inhibition of RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp)
  • Protects the liver from complications caused by antiviral drugs that are prescribed by conventional medicine doctor
  • Antioxidant effects to protect the body from free radicals

Several medicinal compounds found in Houttuynia cordata have been credited with the antiherpes effects of this herb including:

  • Flavonoids
    • Quercetin
      • Quercetin inhibits NF-κB activation.
      • Quercetin inhibits herpes virus entry into human cells.
    • Isoquercitrin

Houttuynia cordata as an Herbal Remedy for HSV-1

Houttuynia cordata extract contains houttuynoid A and houttuynoid M, two flavinoids that have inhibitory effects against Herpes Simplex Virus-1 / HSV-1. These flavonoids can prevent the multiplication of HSV-1 and also stop herpes lesion formation. Houttuynia cordata is believed to work as an herbal remedy for herpes through its ability to block virus fusion to human cell membranes.

Houttuynia cordata also functions as an herbal remedy for acyclovir-resistant HSV-1.

A 50% ethanol extract of Houttuynia cordata contains these flavonoids in a bioavailable form that has anti-HSV effects in the body.

Houttuynia cordata as an Herbal Remedy for HSV-2

Another scientific study has shown that Houttuynia cordata extracts also work as an herbal remedy for HSV-2. In this study, scientists were able to demonstrate that Houttuynia cordata inhibits replication of the herpes virus by blocking the virus from binding to human cells to penetrate them and then replicate. Houttuynia cordata also controls NF-κB activation, which, in turn, alters viral gene expression.

A third study that looked at a hot water extract / tea made with Houttuynia cordata to inhibit NF-κB activation efficiently blocked HSV-2 infection.

Houttuynia cordata and Bidens pilosa: Herbal Combination Treatment for Herpes

Some scientists have combined Houttuynia cordata with Bidens pilosa to cure HSV. In one study, a hot water extract of Bidens pilosa and Houttuynia cordata at a concentration of 20% for both HSV-1 and HSV-2 had significant effects against herpes. But scientists noted that, at a concentration of 33%, Houttuynia cordata as a hot water extract by itself had an effect that was just as powerful as the use of Houttunyia cordata with Bidens pilosa. They noted, however, that Houttuynia cordata by itself had a better, more powerful effect against HSV-2 than against HSV-1.

Houttuynia cordata as an Herbal Remedy for SARS

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) can be treated using Houttuynia cordata as an herbal remedy. SARS is a viral respiratory disease that’s similar to COVID except with a higher death rate. SARS first appeared in China in 2002.

As with HSV, Houttuynia cordata works best as an herbal remedy for SARS as a water extract. It works, at least in part by inhibiting NF-KB activation.

Houttuynia cordata: Herbal Remedy for Lyme Disease

Houttuynia cordata is one of several herbs for lyme disease that are used together in the Cowden Protocol. In conventional medicine, Lyme disease is very hard to treat, but the Cowden Protocol has been used successfully to cure Lyme disease. Lyme disease is caused by a spirochete bacteria called Borrelia burgdorferi so this herb for drug-resistant herpes viruses also works against drug-resistant bacterial infections as well.

Some sources say that using Houttuynia cordata by itself for Lyme disease has about a 50% cure rate for Lyme disease. This is why it is often combined with the other herbs in the Cowden Protocol to increase the cure rate.

Houttuynia cordata: Herbal Remedy for Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Houttuynia cordata has been used to treat chronic inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD)  like Crohn’s diseases, ulcerative colitis, and colorectal cancer. These diseases are caused, to some extent, by a disrupted gut flora and scientists believe that Houttuynia cordata functions as an herbal remedy for IBD via its effects on the microenvironment of the digestive system. Houttuynia cordata has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for centuries as an herbal remedy for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis in a formula known as Xiezhuo Jiedu Formula. In TCM, Houttuynia cordata is known as Yu Xing Cao in TCM.

It’s possible, of course, that Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are caused by a viral infection or some type of colonizing pathogen in the body. Houttuynia cordata, after all, is well known for its ability to get rid of an infection naturally and also reduce inflammation.

Other Infections That Can Be Treated Using Houttuynia cordata

  • Dengue
  • Zika Virus
  • HIV
  • HSV
  • Lyme Disease / Borrelia burgdorferi
  • Coronavirus infections
    • COVID-19
    • Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome / SARS
    • Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome / MERS
    • Influenza

Scientists have noted that encapsulated viruses are particularly susceptible to Houttuynia cordata

Yu Xing Cao / Houttuynia cordata: Dosing

Water extracts of Houttuynia cordata are most effective against HSV.

To prepare Houttuynia cordata as an herbal remedy for HSV, get 1000 grams of the dried herb. Add it to 2 liters of water. Boil the dried herb in the water for 3 hours.

Animal studies looking into the toxicity of Houttuynia cordata have demonstrated that even at a dose of 16 grams per kilogram of body weight, there are no toxic side effects.

A 50% ethanol extract of Houttuynia cordata has also been used successfully to kill the herpes virus and other types of infection. Administer 5 drops of the ethanol extract twice daily. Increase the dose by 1 drop per day until you reach 30 drops administered twice daily.
