Using H2O2 (Hydrogen Peroxide) to Treat Respiratory Problems At-Home

Using hydrogen peroxide to nebulize as a cure for nearly all kinds of respiratory system problems is a treatment that has been well covered-up on the internet. But, for those physicians and regular people who have used H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) in a nebulizer as a treatment, this is often their go-to option for nearly any lung problem, nasal problem, or sinus problem.  On the other hand, some lung problems, such as COPD, cystic fibrosis, and non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis can initially seem to get better using food grade hydrogen peroxide and then later, improvements lessen as oxidative damage that hydrogen peroxide can cause overcomes any benefits wrought by its ability to kill bacteria in the lungs. Many patients with lung problems may experience better results using chlorine dioxide solution as a drink that they take orally instead of nebulizing food grade hydrogen peroxide. The chlorine dioxide solution releases a different set of reactive oxygen species that are able to kill pathogens without damaging lung tissues. Meanwhile, most patients with lung problems can inhale molecular hydrogen rather than inhaling hydrogen peroxide. Molecular hydrogen is a a powerful antioxidant that has been scientifically proven to cure diseases like cystic fibrosis and emphysema when used for long time periods. Molecular hydrogen is safe and non-toxic and because hydrogen is a the smallest atom, it has the ability to pass through cellular membranes to gain access to the DNA. While DNA can be damaged by hydrogen peroxide treatments, in some cases where free radicals are too prolific, DNA can be healed by molecular hydrogen.

What is Hydrogen Peroxide?

The chemical formula for hydrogen peroxide is water (H2O) with an extra oxygen molecule on (meaning the chemical formula for hydrogen peroxide is H2O2). This therapy would fall into the category of “oxidant therapies” or “reactive oxygen species medicine”, meaning that its primary mechanisms of action center around using oxidants for healing (this means that while you’re using hydrogen peroxide, you should ideally avoid following antioxidant protocols at the exact same time). Interestingly, the body’s cells naturally produce small amounts of hydrogen peroxide on their own in response to infection or to the presence of toxic compounds. Supplementing with hydrogen peroxide, either by using a nebulizer or through oral supplementation, is intended to support the body’s natural immune response when it is overwhelmed.

Hydrogen peroxide works in a few different ways, but when it comes to killing pathogens, the main thing to know is that reactive oxygen species are what are ultimately deadly to bacteria, viruses, and other undesirable substances lurking in the body. The reactive oxygen species that are released from hydrogen peroxide interact with and destroy toxic cellular membranes.

Health Problems that Nebulized Hydrogen Peroxide Can Treat

Hydrogen peroxide can be used in a variety of ways, but this article focuses on its use as a nebulizer medicine. Therefore, the health problems listed below are specifically related to nebulized hydrogen peroxide.

Dosage of Hydrogen Peroxide for Nebulization

Depending on your situation and why you’re choosing to use hydrogen peroxide in a nebulizer, you may need to follow different dosing protocols. Some physicians also choose to combine hydrogen peroxide with Lugol’s iodine solution for maximum therapeutic benefit. You may also choose to alternate between nebulizing hydrogen peroxide and Lugol’s iodine solution.

You will need 3% FOOD-GRADE hydrogen peroxide (or 7% if you’re treating or preventing a respiratory infection), saline solution, and a nebulizer. If you are unable to obtain medical-grade saline solution, you can also make your own by combining ½ teaspoon of sea salt (do not use regular table salt, you should ONLY use sea salt) in 8 ounces of purified water in a clean glass.

Food-Grade Hydrogen Peroxide

Here are some hydrogen peroxide nebulizing protocols to consider:

Nebulizing with Hydrogen Peroxide for Respiratory Health Maintenance

Combine the following ingredients in a clean, glass container, and then add them to your nebulizer reservoir. Nebulize for as long as needed until the medicine is gone, and only administer once per day for maintenance purposes.

  • 5 ml (milliliters) of 0.9% medical-grade saline solution
  • 1 ml of 3% food-grade hydrogen peroxide solution

Treating Asthma with Nebulized Hydrogen Peroxide

Combine the following ingredients in a clean, glass container before adding them to your nebulizer reservoir. Nebulize with the sinus mask until the medicine is gone, and only administer once per day. This protocol may also be administered to treat high blood pressure (people with high blood pressure are more likely to get nose bleeds, so they, too, should follow the lower dosage described below).

  • 3 ml (milliliters) of 0.9% medical-grade saline solution
  • 0.43 ml (approx. 11 drops from an eye dropper) of 3% food-grade hydrogen peroxide

People with asthma who do this protocol should note that it can cause excessive coughing, but this is a normal response that will subside as they heal.

How to Nebulize Hydrogen Peroxide for Serious Lung Conditions (including pulmonary fibrosis, COPD, sarcoidosis, bronchitis, etc.)

For serious lung conditions resulting in extra-delicate tissues that require special care, follow this protocol. You should use a clean, glass container to mix the ingredients below before putting them into your nebulizer reservoir, and should only nebulize for 10 minutes per day with the solution outlined below.

  • 3 ml (milliliters) of 0.9% medical-grade saline solution
  • 0.21 ml (approx. 5 drops from an eye dropper) of 3% food-grade hydrogen peroxide

How to Nebulize Hydrogen Peroxide and Lugol’s Iodine for Respiratory Infection and COVID-19 Prevention or Treatment

Nebulizing with hydrogen peroxide and Lugol’s iodine solution is a safe and effective way to prevent and/or treat a COVID-19 infection (or any other related coronavirus/respiratory infection).

Our Amazon links to powerful cures like Lugol's Iodine often disappear mysteriously after we publish. Support our outside vendors by purchasing Lugol's Iodine here.

If you’ve recently been exposed to someone who has been infected, or if you’re combating an active respiratory infection (such as COVID-19) complete the protocol below as soon as possible (again, make sure to mix these ingredients in a clean, glass container before adding them to your nebulizer reservoir):

  • 5 ml (milliliters) of 7% medical-grade saline solution
  • 1 ml of 3% food-grade hydrogen peroxide
  • 2 drops of 2% Lugol’s iodine solution (NOT the same as the iodine you buy at the pharmacy; Lugol’s iodine contains a combination of molecular iodine and potassium iodide to ensure that you can take it internally and that your body can absorb and use the iodine)

Nebulize this mixture until the liquid is completely gone. You should make and administer this solution 3 times per day for 4 days in a row to prevent or treat a COVID-19 infection (or another respiratory infection). The sooner that you can administer this treatment, the more likely it is to be effective.

Other Nebulization Protocols for Lung Health

Besides using hydrogen peroxide solution (with or without Lugol’s iodine), there are some other specific natural medicines that may be nebulized to treat respiratory infections, lung diseases and disorders, and other respiratory system problems.

Nebulizing with Colloidal Silver

Colloidal silver has been shown to have some surprising results when nebulized for respiratory problems, however we don’t necessarily endorse this particular nebulization method since breathing silver particles directly into the lungs could potentially (especially if done too much) have negative effects. But still, for some people, this treatment may be the best and more effective option. Use your common sense and don’t overdo this nebulization method.

Colloidal silver nebulization may be a valuable treatment option for patients suffering from:

  • Cystic fibrosis
  • Bacterial respiratory infections (including Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections)
  • Lung sepsis
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Asthma
  • Bronchiectasis
  • Pneumonia
  • Pulmonary fibrosis (AKA interstitial lung disease)
  • Acute bronchitis

Colloidal Silver Solution

Here is a protocol that you may use to nebulize colloidal silver (for children, cut the dosage below by at least half, or less if your child doesn’t weigh much or is very young):

  1. Combine 2 ml (milliliters) of non-diluted nanosilver (do not use homemade nanosilver, the particles will be too large to nebulize). Do not combine with water.
  2. Turn the nebulizer on and put on the sinus mask. Breathe in deeply, hold for a few seconds, and then breathe out (then repeat).
  3. Use this nebulization solution according to the following guidelines:
    1. For treatment of an acute respiratory infection, inhale the colloidal silver for 6-7 minutes from 3-5 times per day.
    2. If you are trying to prevent an infection or respiratory problem, inhale the colloidal silver for 6-7 minutes once or twice per day.
    3. For the treatment of lung diseases and disorders, start with only one session of 6-7 minutes per day.

Nebulization with colloidal silver for the treatment of respiratory system problems has been studied and shown to be extremely safe with very limited adverse effects. In one study completed on monkeys, the monkeys were exposed to colloidal silver for 6 hours each day, 5 days per week, for 13 weeks (note that this is a high exposure of colloidal silver, most people won’t take anywhere near this much). By the end of the study, the researchers determined that this kind of continuous colloidal silver exposure did have some undesirable effects, but overall was proof that only high doses of colloidal silver would likely cause any kind of issue.

Nebulizing with Glutathione

Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant that can be taken internally as an oral supplement, administered intravenously, or even nebulized. For the treatment of respiratory system problems, glutathione can be used to improve the symptoms of chronic lung problems like:

People with asthma should exercise caution when using nebulized glutathione since it can trigger asthma attacks when inhaled.

To nebulize glutathione for respiratory health and healing, follow the instructions below:

  1. Use a type of glutathione (like this one) that will be safe and comfortable for use in a nebulizer. Break open 1 capsule of the glutathione and put it into the nebulizer reservoir.
  2. Now add 5ml (approx. 1 teaspoon) of fresh, purified water to the reservoir. Allow the solution to sit for a few minutes until the glutathione has dissolved completely and the solution looks clear.
  3. Put on the sinus mask and breathe in deeply. The treatment will last approximately 4 minutes. You may do this protocol 1-2 times per day or as needed.

Because glutathione is an antioxidant, make sure that if you choose to nebulize with it that you’re following a protocol with antioxidant medicines, and not combining the glutathione with oxidant medicines. For instance, don’t directly combine glutathione nebulization with CDS/MMS, Artemisia annua, hydrogen peroxide, or similar oxidant medicines. Some people do, however, choose to cycle between using antioxidants like glutathione and oxidants like hydrogen peroxide (they’ll do 3 days of glutathione, and then 3 days of hydrogen peroxide, and then repeat, for example). Other people choose one particular path that works best for them. The main thing to remember is to not mix these two types of medicines back-to-back or else you’ll cancel out the healing effects of both the oxidant and antioxidant medicine.

Nebulizing with Magnesium Sulfate for Asthma Attacks

Magnesium sulfate nebulization may be a valuable treatment option for patients with asthma. Some studies have shown that nebulizing magnesium sulfate (MgSO(4)) can help diminish symptoms of acute asthma exacerbation and can also improve overall pulmonary function in these patients. In one study in particular, magnesium sulfate nebulization was linked to fewer hospital visits in patients with asthma. Another study demonstrated similar results, but also noted an improved blood and lung oxygen saturation, improved respiratory rate, and reduced dyspnea (shortness of breath).

The asthma patients in one study were administered a 3ml solution with 260mmol/L of magnesium sulfate every 20-60 minutes after they had been administered to the emergency department for moderate to severe asthma attacks.
