Nitric oxide is a toxic molecule in the human body. It is a free radical that exists both as a byproduct of environmental pollution and also as a byproduct of human metabolism. Unfortunately, nitric oxide causes certain short-term desirable effects such as dilating blood vessels and as such, it has gotten a positive reputation in modern medicine as a beneficial substance.
