Detoxifying the liver is essential for recovery from any major health issue, including fast food addiction.

Detoxification for Fast Food Addiction Recovery

There are a number of things that you can do to set yourself up for success at overcoming fast food addiction. In another discussion, we talked about taking nutrient supplements to help your body overcome nutritional deficiencies which in turn, diminishes the sense of desperation that your physical body feels for nourishment / food. During the initial stages of working to overcome addiction to fast food, hyper-nourishing the body can reduce cravings and increase willpower against the addictive properties of fast food. But in addition to hyper-nourishing the body, it is also incredibly beneficial to detoxify the body.

How to Stop Fast Food Addiction

When working to overcome an addiction, it’s important to always consider withdrawals and detox. Detox or detoxification is the process through which the body releases toxins that it has been exposed to and that are being stored in the body as a result of the addiction. Addiction, by nature, involves too much of something. It involves imbalance and a lack of moderation. The lack of moderation leads to a buildup of toxic substances in the liver and other organs and soft tissues of the body. During detox, these toxic substances are released for removal from the body via the kidneys, skin, and intestines.

When you release the toxins that built up in the body as a result of a fast food addiction, for example, it’s like you’re releasing substances that have been causing an ongoing addiction cycle. Some of these substances are mimicking the action of nutrients. They’re masquerading as nutrition. These substances might be stored in the soft tissues of the body for release whenever the body needs a given nutrient. If a non-nutritive substance is masquerading as a nutrient, you need to release it from the body so it stops interfering with your body’s ability to interact with the actual nutrient it needs. This is especially true as you begin taking nutritional supplements and herbs for fast food addiction.

You can hasten the detoxification process by doing certain things that diminish the burden of filtration and release of toxins via the kidneys, skin, and intestines. Essentially, by using certain detoxification strategies for addiction, to remove toxins from the body more quickly, you support the organs of detoxification in the body which allows them to heal. This not only gets you through the process of detox more quickly, but it also reduces withdrawal symptoms by managing your exposure to these toxins that are being stored in the body and then released periodically in response to certain triggers. When you use methods to detoxify the body more quickly, you feel better and stronger more quickly. It increases your chance of success at overcoming fast food addiction.

Below we discuss how to detoxify after fast food addiction to remove toxins from the body that might be perpetuating cravings and health issues that are caused by fast food consumption.

Detox: How to Quit Fast Food Addiction More Quickly

Detoxification is something that the body does naturally, but there are ways to increase the speed with which the organs of detoxification, namely the liver, intestines, kidneys, and skin, remove toxins. Increasing the speed with which the body removes toxins is a good thing because you’ll be able to notice more easily how much better you feel NOT eating fast food, but also you’ll be less likely to experience a detoxification reaction as a result of your body suddenly releasing a large quantity of the toxins that it’s been carrying around. While you’re in the throes of fast food addiction, your body is unable to release these toxins because every day or every few days (or sometimes several times per day), there’s a new toxic exposure through the consumption of more fast food.

When your body has been inundated with toxins, it can be hard to imagine what it would feel like if you weren’t carrying these poisons around in your liver. People get used to how their bodies feel. Once the body feels a certain way, it seems normal. We don’t expect to have more energy or less depression because it becomes our baseline state to feel fatigued, anxious, or depressed. Toxins in fast food create a sense of heaviness in the gut, particularly in the solar plexus region, just under the rib cage. Toxins that are being stored in fat cells in the body will be released into the bloodstream to cause a wide range of health issues from fatigue and chronic pain to brain fog. You have to replace those fat cells that contain toxins with fat cells that contain fat-soluble vitamins like vitamin A, D, E, and K complex. Your body will naturally do this work if you hyper-nourish with things like cod liver oil (which is high in the fat soluble vitamins) and allow your body to detoxify at the same time.

When your body begins to get rid of toxins in your fat cells, you may get diarrhea to release these toxins from the body. Doing enemas, particularly coffee enemas can make this experience feel less painful and less like being sick and instead feel more like you’re getting rid of toxic things that you no longer want in your body. Taking a supplement like N-Acetyl-Cysteine / NAC can assist with the process of detoxification by thinning mucus and promoting the production of glutathione in the liver. Glutathione is the main detoxifying substance that our bodies use to bind with poisons. It binds the poisons to make them inert as they are being escorted out of the body.

N-Acetyl-Cysteine / NAC

N-Acetyl-Cysteine / NAC is a nutrient supplement that promotes the production of the main detoxifier for our bodies: glutathione. In reality, NAC functions like a medicine. For example, you could take NAC instead of guaifenesin, an over-the-counter drug that’s often found in brand names such as Mucinex or Robitussin (to name just two). While guaifenesin causes side effects like headache, hives, stomach pain, diarrhea, or dizziness, NAC does not. Guaifenesin is toxic for the liver while NAC is actually a liver-protector and a supportive agent for the liver. Yet, NAC treats the same symptoms that guaifenesin treats. It thins mucus which helps clear the sinuses, bronchioles, and lungs during a respiratory infection.

The thing is, mucus is a transport vehicle that the body uses to remove toxins from the body. That’s why you get a runny nose when you have a cold. When your nose is running, your body is trying to expel bacteria, viruses, and toxins from the sinuses, throat, and lungs. Mucus that is running is working effectively. The problems occur when the mucus stops running and gets thick and sticky. When toxins or pathogens are so prolific in the sinuses, lungs, or bronchioles that the mucus gets sticky and thick, people tend to develop issues like sinus infection. Mucus that is able to run smoothly is ideal and NAC ensures that mucus continues to “flow”. When the mucus is flowing, you’re detoxifying your body efficiently because the mucus will carry the toxins out of the body.

Anywhere where there is a hole from an inner space inside the body to the external world, there is mucus. The nose and the eyes both produce mucus. The vagina produces mucus (NAC can improve fertility naturally in women), and the intestines also produce mucus. Mucus keeps toxins flowing out of the body and NAC helps promote the “flowing” quality of mucus.

NAC’s ability to promote healthy mucus “flows” is the secret behind a lot of its super-powers. Though the brain does not produce mucus, it does react to toxic overload. When mucus is not flowing smoothly out of the body, the brain can become inflamed. Brain inflammation, in turn, feels like irritability and an inability to think clearly. It can feel like brain fog and restlessness too. That’s why NAC is often given to people with addictions, because it helps remove the toxins from the body that cause irritability and other symptoms of withdrawal. These symptoms of withdrawal, after all, can lead to relapse. So it’s important to take 1000 mg NAC doses every 6 hours of the day up to a total dose of 3000 mg.

Additionally, NAC is a precursor in the production of glutathione, the primary detoxifying agent that our bodies use to remove toxins safely from the body.

Enemas

Enemas are extremely helpful in overcoming fast food addiction. Though enemas are among the many medicinal administration methods that have been ousted by modern conventional medicine, in fact, the use of medicinal enemas go back thousands of years. The blood supply from the anus, the large intestine, and the small intestine traverses a different set of blood vessels through organs that are virtually unreachable via the stomach and orally administered medications. So a person can sometimes use enemas as an alternative to IV medications. And enemas can be used specifically to treat the liver and gallbladder which are often very hard to reach using oral medications. Enemas also give people direct access to the intestines to treat the large intestine specifically for issues like biofilm that can harbor things like parasites or other serious types of infection.

So while you may not initially feel excited about the idea of doing enemas to stop fast food addiction behaviors, in fact, enemas can help you work with the organs that are being most directly affected in a negative way by fast food. There are a number of enema recipes using herbs, salts, baking soda, and other ingredients to accomplish various health-related goals, but for an addiction to fast food, the most important type of enema that you can do is a coffee enema.

Coffee enemas specifically cleanse the liver and the gallbladder and this is a major goal when you are working to overcome addiction. The liver is the primary organ of detoxification in the body. If it is overloaded with toxins, your entire body suffers. The liver releases bile into the intestines when you eat and bile is like a detergent. It acts like soap in the intestines, but like soap, bile also grabs onto toxins to carry them out of the body. If your liver is overwhelmed with toxins, your bile is also overwhelmed with toxins – this would be like washing your intestines in dirty dishwater. The sudsing power of the soap-like bile wouldn’t do its job and things like fats and oils in the intestines that would normally be digested and absorbed by the intestines are instead left behind to coat the villi, which is a bit like shag carpet. You can imagine what it would be like to spill something like melted Crisco or coconut oil onto shag carpet. It would be a nightmare to clean it up.

Coffee enemas promote the production of glutathione in the liver and it also promotes the expulsion of bile sludge and bile stones that clog up bile ducts. So coffee enemas assist with the detoxification of the liver as well as the cleanup in the intestines after years of eating fast food. If you’re really ready to break a fast food addiction, plan to do coffee enemas once daily for a month and once every day for the second and third month after you stop eating fast food permanently. After that, do at least 1 coffee enema per week for 52 weeks (1 year).

Colonic / Colon Hydrotherapy

This is a treatment that you have to get done in a clinic or a spa setting. Doing a colonic is an awesome way to begin detoxing from fast food addiction. Colon hydrotherapy is like a deep cleaning for the intestines. Doing colon hydrotherapy can be complemented by doing enemas at home to get rid of the buildup of biofilm and fats that coat the inside of the intestines. As you get rid of the buildup of toxic fats and oils on the inner lining of the intestines, you free up areas that easily absorb nutrients. Inflammation gets resolved. Parasite infections go away and diseases or chronic health issues begin to clear up. Fast food cravings become more manageable.

Withdrawals and detox are challenging for addiction recovery of any kind but using something like colon hydrotherapy to clean out the intestines and begin rebuilding the gut flora can give you a new sense of control over fast food addiction. Combine colon hydrotherapy once monthly with daily coffee enemas for at least 3 months during your fast food detox process.

Hulda Clark Gallbladder Cleanse

The liver is the organ that produces bile. Bile is like soap for the intestines. It’s “sudsy” and it exerts a detergent-like action on the intestinal tissues. Bile also helps digest food down to component parts that are absorbable by the gut lining. If your liver is sick, then your gut will be sick too. You need bile to keep the intestines clean so that the tissues can easily come into contact with nutrients for absorption into the bloodstream. If your intestines are coated with old, nasty fats or oils, biofilm, sticky mucus, and toxic leftovers from fast food lunches, then you need to recruit your liver into the process of healing from fast food addiction.

Coffee enemas are an excellent way to support the liver, but the Hulda Clark liver and gallbladder cleanse is another mainstay in terms of fast food addiction detox. Coffee enemas remove bile sludge and tiny bile stones from bile ducts in the liver, but the Hulda Clark liver and gallbladder cleanse mostly targets the gallbladder to get rid of gallstones without surgery. Click here to read more about how to do the Hulda Clark gallbladder cleanse.

The gallbladder is a small organ located just underneath the liver. It stores bile for timed release throughout the day. While the liver and gallbladder release bile on demand for digestion, the gallbladder also squirts a tiny dose of bile into the intestines on a regular basis to keep the small intestines clean and motile. While conventional medicine teaches that the gallbladder is a “useless organ”, in fact, without it the intestines may struggle to maintain a clean environment.

The gallbladder is not just a bile storage organ. It actually plays a role in reproductive system health as well as liver health. You need your gallbladder and though many doctors say that the only recourse for gallstones is surgery, this is patently false. There are rare situations where gallbladder surgery may be the correct thing to do, but gallstones can be easily removed using either herbs for gallstones or the Hulda Clark gallbladder cleanse.

If you’re trying to figure out how to overcome fast food addiction, the Hulda Clark Cleanse is a method for cleaning out the gallbladder to release gallstones and whatever toxins may exist inside the gallbladder as a result of the addiction.

Often, people eat something because their “stomach” (read: intestines) feel “upset”. Many people actually eat MORE because their stomachs feel “upset” – this may seem illogical except for the fact that eating sometimes spurs the intestines to move again in healthy people whose intestines have, for one reason or another, become still and unmoving.

This “stomach upset” feeling is actually the feeling of the intestines NOT MOVING. Normally, the intestines move quite a bit during the day, but fast food contains ingredients (and lacks others) that reduces gut motility. While coffee enemas will help keep the bowels moving to reduce this feeling of “stomach upset”, clearing gallstones and bile sludge out of the gallbladder using the Hulda Clark Gallbladder Cleanse will help the gallbladder begin to do its job again – namely that of squirting a bit of bile into the small intestines to encourage regular gut motility throughout the day whether you eat anything or not.

Do 1 Hulda Clark cleanse monthly for at least 3 months along with daily coffee enemas. If you live close to a facility that offers colon hydrotherapy, do 1 colonic per month as well two weeks after you do your Hulda Clark cleanse.

Ox Bile and Pancreatic Enzyme Supplements

Taking ox bile supplements during meals is a way to support your liver as you go through fast food detox. Again, ox bile functions like soap in the intestines while it also digests food and makes sure it can be absorbed by the intestinal wall into the bloodstream. If your liver and gallbladder are clogged with bile sludge or stones, you may not be releasing the appropriate amount of bile into your small intestine. This can lead to poor digestion which in turn, can lead to the intestines becoming coated in old, yucky fats and oils among other things. Taking a 500-1000 mg ox bile supplement during meals can ensure that your food is digested (which in turn, ensures that you receive the nutrients your body needs) and it allows your liver to recycle the bile that it produces naturally too.

Bile normally is released by the liver and gallbladder into the small intestine during meals. Excess, unused bile that’s leftover after everything has been digested during a meal, is absorbed back into the bloodstream to return to the liver and gallbladder for storage. This recycling effort makes it so that the liver doesn’t have to work as hard to produce as much bile. That’s why ox bile supplements have a supportive effect on the liver.

Enzymes like bile and pancreatic enzymes take a lot of energy for the body to produce. Both bile and pancreatic enzymes are recycled by the body to reduce the energy expenditures involved with producing these enzymes. If you have been eating a toxic fast food diet, then your bile and pancreatic enzyme reserves may be very low. Taking an ox bile and pancreatic enzyme supplement can do wonders for your health by simply removing the huge burden of enzyme production off your liver and your gallbladder, but these enzymes also ensure that your food gets properly digested and absorbed.

If you have serious health issues like diabetes or cancer, be sure to read more here about how diabetes can be caused by bile sludge or bile stones in the common bile duct
