Menaquinone-7 / Vitamin K2 Natural Treatment of Preeclampsia
"The Natural Women's Health Guide... to Pregnancy - BUY HERE!"
Last year, Lydian and I began researching autoimmune disease. We had several clients who were struggling with autoimmunity and many of them would experience improvements as a result of using things like Lugol’s iodine 2%, Chlorine Dioxide Solution, and the amino acid L-Tyrosine but they would always hit a wall at some point. This problem led Lydi and I to take our autoimmune disease research in another direction to study things like organophosphates and genetically modified foods (GMOs). Our research into Myasthenia Gravis was particularly important in providing a link between autoimmunity, GMOs, and organophosphate insecticides. But now, as we look more closely at preeclampsia cures, we see a pattern emerging in the data. Women with preeclampsia are lacking the exact nutrients that plants have been genetically modified to stop producing. One of the most important nutrients that is under-represented in the scientific literature is vitamin K2, also known as Menaquinone-7 or MK-7 for short.
GMOs During Pregnancy / GMO During Pregnancy
We spent quite a lot of time reading and learning about GMOs and organophosphates and some of the big takeaways that we got from this material included:- GMO foods like corn, soy, and wheat are staple food products. People eat a lot of them in their daily diet. But when these foods have been genetically modified, the plants no longer produce certain nutrients like:
- Vitamin K1 / Phylloquinone
- Vitamin K2 / Menaquinone / MK-7
- Methylfolate
- Coenzyme Q10 / Ubiquinone
- L-Tyrosine (an amino acid precursor to dopamine, noradrenaline, and adrenaline)
- L-Tryptophan (an amino acid precursor to serotonin and melatonin)
- L-Phenylalanine (an amino acid precursor to L-Tyrosine)
- Deficiencies of the nutrients listed above produce a cascade of negative health effects which might include cancer, autoimmune disease, allergies, addictions, mental health issues, and vascular problems that lead to dementia or any number of circulatory problems in the body in non-pregnant individuals. In women who are pregnant, the lack of these nutrients will most likely show up in the form of vascular / blood vessel-related issues in the body, neural tube defects in babies, depression including postpartum depression, and the development of postpartum health issues.
- The U.S. government and other governments of the world sanction the use of bromide-containing insecticides and organophosphate insecticides like RoundUp / Glyphosate for use on GMO plants knowing that these insecticides worsen the above nutrient deficiencies.
- Organophosphates are present in a number of prescription drugs like bisphosphonates.
- Organophosphate insecticides are often used in place of bromide-containing insecticides. Many people believe that bromide-containing insecticides are better. They are not, and in fact, they create similar, related health issues as organophosphates.
- Some local governments vote to get rid of organophosphates in favor of bromide-containing insecticides. In these areas of the world, instead of bone and blood-related health problems, thyroid issues, weight problems and obesity, reproductive organ cancers, and infertility are major issues facing the population.
- Bromide-containing insecticides are toxic to anyone who is deficient in iodine.
- Vitamin K2 deficiency causes and worsense iodine deficiency.
Even now, as I scan the list of nutrients that are specifically phased out of production in plants that are genetically modified, I can’t help but notice that Coenzyme Q10 / Ubiquinone is among them. Studies have shown that women who take coenzyme Q10 as an at-home remedy for preeclampsia prevention, experience a diminished risk of negative health effects. In one study, pregnant women at high risk of preeclampsia who take Coenzyme Q10, went from having a 25.6% chance of developing preeclampsia to only a 14.4% chance as a result of taking only a small 200 mg dose of Coenzyme Q10. Because Coenzyme Q10 is a substance that is produced naturally in non-GMO corn, soy, and wheat plants, and because women at high risk of developing preeclampsia were able to reduce their risk substantially by simply making sure that their bodies are receiving plenty of this nutrient, one might wonder if some of the other nutrients listed above would also reduce the risk of preeclampsia naturally. Perhaps vitamin K2, with its general blood-vessel-health and blood-health-promoting effects would positively impact women with preeclampsia? Indeed, given the work of Weston Price on childhood development and vitamin K2, it seems really plausible, if not even obvious to say that vitamin K2 deficiency might be the causative factor behind preeclampsia. Women need to know about this nutrient supplement that does no harm, but that can do a lot of good during a pregnancy. In women with preeclampsia, it can’t hurt to take this supplement. But if you’re unsure about vitamin K2 as a supplement or if you’re fundamentally opposed to supplements in a general way, then the alternative would be to seek out something called Nattokinase (a food that contains high levels of vitamin K2) or grass-fed milk from cows that have not been treated using organophosphate veterinary medications (that are often used to prevent fleas or other insect infestations in livestock). Vitamin K2 can protect your body from the ravages of both GMO plants as well as organophosphate insecticides so it’s a worthwhile nutrient to seek out in some form during pregnancy.
Let’s look specifically at vitamin K2 / menaquinone-7 and preeclampsia in this article. Though I have not been able to find studies into this nutrient and its specific effect on preeclampsia, it stands out to me because of its role in promoting vascular health and its relative absence in the food supply. You see, while vitamin D is responsible for moving dietary calcium from the intestines into the bloodstream, vitamin K2 is responsible for moving calcium out of the blood supply into the bones and teeth where it belongs. A high concentration of calcium in the blood supply or in soft tissues leads to a buildup of calcium deposits in soft tissues which is a serious health issue because calcification or hardening of soft tissues can, by itself, cause disease. But it’s also serious because calcifications in breast tissues, for example, often lead to false positive mammograms. False positive cancer tests often lead to unnecessary biopsies carried out under bromide-containing anesthetics. Calcification of other soft tissues like the pineal gland can lead to a wide range of health problems and they’re quite common. About 40% of the population of the U.S. under the age of 17 years has a calcified pineal gland, for example, a health problem that’s associated closely with autism and other neurological disease. Read more about how to decalcify the pineal gland here. So vitamin K2 is a big topic that should be under the media spotlight each and every day.
Sadly, in pop culture, vitamin K2 is almost unknown in the modern world. While multivitamins often contain substantial doses of vitamin D2 or D3, and while vitamin D often makes at least one headline each day, vitamin K2 isn’t well known or well understood. Most people think of vitamin K1 / Phylloquinone when Lydi or I bring up the topic of vitamin K2 / Menaquinone. The general public is completely in the dark about vitamin K2. Indeed, vitamin K2 is derived from vitamin K1, so the two nutrients are related. And both vitamin K1 and vitamin K2 manage the health and functioning of the blood and blood vessels, but through different mechanisms of action. With daily doses of vitamin K2 (which used to be present in non-GMO foods like whole wheat flour and corn flour), people can naturally do things like remineralize teeth. And the risk of cardiovascular disease and atherosclerosis becomes practically non-existent in those who are taking in plenty of vitamin K2. Vitamin K2 works as a cure for leukemia in children, a scientifically verified fact that you’ll be hard-pressed to find through a Google search. The risk of dementia is also affected by vitamin K2 when the blood vessels leading to the brain are properly opened and no longer clogged by calcifications. One might also wonder if the risk of preeclampsia would be reduced substantially in women who take a combination of nutrients from the list above, given that vitamin K2 and vitamin K1 both work together to manage the blood and the blood vessels. The fact that coenzyme Q10 / ubiquinone has shown great promise for reducing the risk of preeclampsia naturally supports this line of reasoning regarding menaquinone-7 / vitamin K2.

Vitamin K2: How to Protect Yourself from Organophosphates During Pregnancy
Taking this line of reasoning a step further, a woman who is deficient in vitamin K2 is also vulnerable to absorbing organophosphates from the environment. Vitamin K2 ushers calcium into the bones and teeth to make these tissues healthy and strong. A deficiency of vitamin K2 leads to weak bones and teeth. If the bones and teeth are weak and lacking in calcium due to vitamin K2 deficiency, they become susceptible to absorbing organophosphates. It should also be noted that a woman who lives within 1 mile of a field that is being sprayed with organophosphates has a 60% greater chance of having a child born with autism. If vitamin K2 is able to protect the body from some of the effects of organophosphate exposure during pregnancy, then this is a nutrient that should definitely be making the news. Read more about the link between organophosphates and autism here.
Calcium is a nutrient that is found abundantly in most foods, so most people, including pregnant women, do not need to take a calcium supplement. Normally, when vitamin D, vitamin K2, and calcium are present in the diet, the body absorbs the calcium from the intestines into the bloodstream. Vitamin K2 then takes the calcium in the bloodstream and puts it into the bones and teeth where it forms a calcium-phosphate molecule that is very stable and extremely strong, yet flexible. Calcium and healthy inorganic phosphates work together to produce energy in cells too. Indeed, calcium and inorganic phosphates are rather like soul mates in terms of the magical things that they do together inside the body from forming strong bones and teeth to producing energy in the ATP cycle. You can read more about the calcium + inorganic phosphate connection here. In terms of pregnancy though, you need to realize that if you’re both deficient in vitamin K2 such that your body is not absorbing calcium from the bloodstream and putting it into the bones and teeth and if you are also being exposed to organic phosphates like organophosphate insecticides or organophosphate drugs, then your bones and teeth will absorb these organophosphates and store them. As such, organophosphates are bioaccumulative. They build up inside the body over the course of time. Vitamin K2 supplementation can remove organophosphates from the bones and teeth to replace the toxic organic phosphates with healthy inorganic phosphates that bind to calcium.
High levels of calcium in the bloodstream is one of the identifying features of vitamin K2 deficiency. If you are deficient in vitamin K2, the calcium in your diet will tend to linger in the blood and it will likely build up there in the blood vessels. It may also build up in soft tissues like the pineal gland or in the liver or kidneys. If you are deficient in vitamin K2, the high concentration of calcium in your blood will then make it hard for your body to absorb iodine. Calcium inhibits iodine absorption, after all.
The Dangers of Iodine Deficiency During Pregnancy
So now, we have to talk briefly about iodine because iodine is one of the most important nutrients that a woman can take to ensure her reproductive health and the health of her unborn child. Iodine feeds the reproductive organs and without adequate iodine, women experience health issues like infertility, endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), breast cancer, and other reproductive organ cancers. And in the 1970s and 1980s, while doctors were being educated in American Medical Association-certified medical schools to believe that all forms of iodine are radioactive they were simultaneously being deprived an education in nutrition. Big Food and Big Pharma were conspiring together at this time to remove iodine as a fortifying agent in breads in the United States to ensure an ever increasing supply of patients who would be needy for petroleum-based pharmaceuticals. Iodine was the most prescribed medicine in the early 1900s before medicine became corporatized. Lugol’s iodine was used to treat and cure a number of health conditions and it was successful as a treatment for a diversity of symptoms because iodine deficiency is a common problem. Iodine deficiency is so common, in fact, throughout the world that most countries with subsidized healthcare systems have an iodine fortification strategy to prevent the widespread and diverse health problems that are caused by iodine deficiency. But the U.S. does not have a subsidized healthcare system. The U.S. has the only capitalistic healthcare system in the developed world. In other words, the United States is the only country in the developed world where the profits from a given treatment matter instead of the outcomes from that treatment. So, in the 1970s and 1980s, as doctors were receiving no nutrition education and as they were being taught that all forms of iodine are toxic, Big Food and Big Pharma were removing specific nutrients from the food supply with the goal of creating widespread health issues that would not be curable using any drug. Meanwhile, iodine was removed from bread (which was an excellent carrier for iodine fortification) and it was placed in salt (a terrible carrier for iodine fortification because the iodine evaporates out of it within days of opening the box). The obesity epidemic in the U.S. thus began and breast cancer rates skyrocketed. Fertility issues became commonplace. This is where we are today. In the 1980s when iodine was removed from the food supply, GMO products were also approved for use by the FDA for the first time. Remember, genetic modification of common staples like corn, soy, and wheat makes these plants capable of surviving the application of organophosphate insecticides that kill anything that goes through the shikimate pathway. A plant that is capable of surviving the application of RoundUp / glyphosate, for example, won’t produce nutrients like vitamin K2. So, if the government moves iodine from bread into salt and people no longer receive as much iodine in their diet as a result, and if that government simultaneously removes staple-plants that produce vitamin K2 from that person’s diet, the iodine that the person does consume will be less likely to be absorbed into the body. If a person who is deficient in iodine is also exposed to bromide-containing insecticides during a deficiency, that person might become obese and sick. If a person who is deficient in vitamin K2 is exposed to organophosphates, that person will begin storing organophosphates in their bones and teeth which will result in poor dental health and a higher risk of bone fractures as well as blood vessel calcification and issues related to blood and blood vessel production in the body.Lydi and I wrote a book called Root Cause: Common Environmental Toxins and How to Protect Yourself from Them that talks about all of these issues in depth, but the main takeaway that we wanted to emphasize in this article is that women who are at high risk for preeclampsia should consider doing a nutrient supplementation program that includes all of the nutrients that are no longer being produced in staple food products because those foods have been genetically modified such that the entire population is deficient in them. Our experience with these essential nutrients during pregnancy that prevent preeclampsia and other serious problems has been remarkable to say the least in our pregnant clients. They should also be administered to children and to women postpartum, if not throughout life because in our modern society, these nutrients are quite scarce.

Nutrition to Prevent Preeclampsia
Below are the dosages and recommended nutrients during pregnancy to prevent eclampsia. Note that these are also nutrients to treat preeclampsia or eclampsia in women who are already pregnant:-
-
- This nutrient is present in chlorophyll.
- Take 50 mg of sodium copper chlorophyllin per day.
-
-
-
- Avoid taking vitamin D by itself. Check your multivitamin and if it contains vitamin D, increase your dose of vitamin K2 by 100 mcg to compensate for the effects.
- Take 180-360 mcg of vitamin K2 daily.
-
-
-
- Take 15 mg per day
- This is the nutrient that allows the neural tube to form properly in an embryo. Neural tube defects like spina bifida occur as a result of methylfolate deficiency.
- Take a methylfolate supplement even if your multivitamin contains folic acid.
-
-
-
- Take 200-400 mg daily.
- L-Tyrosine (an amino acid precursor to dopamine, noradrenaline, and adrenaline)
- Take 2000 mg daily.
- L-Tryptophan (an amino acid precursor to serotonin and melatonin)
- Take 1500 mg daily.
- L-Phenylalanine (an amino acid precursor to L-Tyrosine)
- Take 1000-2000 mg daily.
-
-
- Administer 20 drops to the skin of the abdomen overlying the uterus each day.
- If you have a thyroid condition including hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism, begin taking iodine by first taking the supportive nutrients that we list below for 2 weeks before beginning to supplement with iodine.
- If you do not have a thyroid condition, begin by administering 1 drop of iodine to skin over the abdomen daily. Be sure to administer all of the supportive nutrient along with your daily drops of iodine. Without the supportive nutrients, you may experience a rash as your body begins to remove the bromide from your body through the blood supply.
- Supportive Nutrients
- Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) - 400mg/day
- Vitamin B3 (Niacin) - 500mg/day
- Selenium - 200mcg/day (selenium works together with iodine, but also helps to suppress viral replication in cells and to deactivate “bioavailable” mercury and other heavy metals)
- Magnesium - 300-1200mg/day
- Zinc + Copper - 15mg+2mg/day (zinc and copper should always be taken together when zinc will be taken over the long term; this is because long-term zinc supplementation can lead to copper depletion, unless a person takes copper with the zinc)
- Vitamin C - 3000-6000mg/day (take this in divided doses according to your preference)
- Sea Water Supplement - Add 1 teaspoon to every 8 ounces of water that you drink during the day.
More Information about How to Administer Lugol’s Iodine During Pregnancy:
- To start your preeclampsia healing treatment using Lugol’s iodine, apply 1 drop of Lugol’s iodine 2% directly to your skin, or add it to a glass of drinking water. Take this in the morning upon waking (some people find that iodine taken after 2 pm can cause problems sleeping).
- Increase your daily dose of Lugol’s iodine 2% by 1 drop every 3 days. If you start to experience detoxification symptoms, stop at whatever dose you’re at until they pass. Read more about Detoxification Reactions here. Continue increasing your Lugol’s dose again as soon as the Detoxification Reaction passes. Keep increasing your dosage until you reach 20 drops per day of Lugol’s 2% (this is equivalent to 50 mg per day). This dose will protect you and your baby from bromide-insecticide exposure.
Vitamin K2 and Iodine During Pregnancy
Obviously, this article is focused on the problem of genetically modified plants (GMOs) and nutrient deficiencies that can be traced directly back to the increase in preeclampsia in pregnant women since the 1980s. But historically, GMOs were introduced into the food supply at the same time that iodine was removed as a fortifying agent in bread. And these two nutrients work together. Specifically, without adequate vitamin K2, calcium levels in the blood are higher than they should be and as a result, iodine absorption is inhibited. So if we talk about a vitamin K2 deficiency, we also have to talk about iodine deficiency during pregnancy.Taking vitamin K2 and Lugol’s iodine during pregnancy is one of the most important gifts you can give your child and yourself for future health. In the mid-1980s, just after the iodine-vitamin K2 changes were made to the U.S. food supply, the rate of preeclampsia among women was 2.5%. Today, the reported preeclampsia rate is at about 10%. Historically, the changes in the food supply that took shape in the 1980s stand out as likely candidates that could conceivably cause preeclampsia rates to skyrocket like this.
If you’re looking for a home remedy for preeclampsia, vitamin K2 and Lugol’s iodine, methylfolate, coenzyme Q10, and the other amino acids listed above can make a life-or-death difference in terms of the health of your baby and your health following pregnancy. These are nutrients that you should take before, during, and after pregnancy and for as long as you are eating GMO foods or living in an industrialized country where organophosphates and bromide-containing insecticides are being used.
Final Words about Bromide-Containing Pharmaceuticals: Drugs to Avoid to Prevent Preeclampsia
Organophosphates are used in prescription medications like bisphosphonates. Obviously, these drugs are toxic and they cause serious health problems like weak bones among other things. But there are many drugs that also contain bromide, a toxic substance that hijacks iodine metabolism in the body. While organophosphate drugs are mostly found as prescription bisphosphonate medications, bromide-containing medications are widely available over-the-counter. These are common drugs, many of them cough medications, that women might take during pregnancy. These are drugs that cause miscarriage or stillbirth as well as neurological problems in babies and children. The AlivenHealthy Living Database is the tool that Lydian and I use to organize the data that we find while researching cures for diseases each day. Big Pharma, Big Food, and Big Ag work hard to hide the cures for diseases as well as the underlying causes of major diseases to maintain their profits. So it's hard for the average person to find scientific data about cures for disease even though the data exists! So, when Lydi and I find a cure for disease in the scientific literature or if we find anecdotal reports of disease cures that have worked for other people, we compile this information in our Living Database. Recently, we made this database available to the public via subscription so that more people could find links to studies and reports of cures for major as well as minor and even rare diseases.Click here to learn more about how to subscribe to the AlivenHealthy Living Database.
