A Hair Loss Cure from Culturally Diverse Models of Medicine
Conventional medicine does not acknowledge that there is a cure for hair loss. So this book will draw from a wide range of hair loss treatments derived from other models of medicine including:
- Traditional Chinese Medicine
- Nutrition and Orthomolecular Medicine
- Vibrational Medicine and
Throughout the book, we’ll talk about natural treatments for hair loss that offer comparable or better results than Minoxidil and other conventional medicine treatments like PUVA but without the toxic side effects. A wide array of different herbs inhibit 5-alpha-reductase, the enzyme that changes regular testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and the type of testosterone that plays a role in androgenic alopecia / male pattern hair loss / female pattern hair loss. And holistic therapies like Lugol’s iodine 2%, vitamin B12, and enzyme therapy should be front-line treatments for anyone with autoimmune hair loss / alopecia areata. Though a person with alopecia areata might benefit to some extent from an essential oil hair loss treatment that’s applied directly to the scalp, they would have much greater success if said person used holistic treatments for autoimmune disease that heal the thyroid gland and restore reproductive organ function to proper levels.
Indeed, if you suffer from Lichen Planus / Lichen Planopilaris hair loss, then it would benefit you to use the holistic autoimmune disease treatments that we talk about in this article along with strongly alkalizing treatments like the Bob Wright Protocol, Cesium Therapy (using alternatives for Cesium like Lithium Orotate and/or Rubidium), or Simonici Therapy to alkalize the entire body. Treat the condition with natural cures for cancer that we list at AlivenHealthy.com and in our four volume series, The Cancer Cure Catalog to get rid of Lichen Planopilaris permanently. Download the first volume of the Cancer Cure Catalog series for free here. The first volume of this series talks about nutrition and cancer diets that can be used to cure a variety of health problems including hair loss due to Lichen PIanopilaris or due to autoimmune disease. Pay special attention to the natural cancer cure and JAK-Inhibitor known as thymoquinine which is found in Nigella sativa as a cure for Lichen planopilaris and Lichen planus.
Any kind of noticeable hair loss should alert you to the fact that your general health has declined. This was my story about 15 years ago when my hair suddenly fell out while I was traveling in Mexico. It was a scary experience and, at the time, I had no idea what was going on. Today, I know that my hair loss was due to Iodine Deficiency and Bromine Toxicity along with vitamin B17 / Amygdalin Deficiency, and a parasite infection that developed due to these two nutrient deficiencies. It took about a year for my hair to grow back after I returned home and removed all xenoestrogens from my daily life and did a serious detoxification effort to limit my exposure to cosmetics, cleaning products, sunscreens, and other toxic things that were making me sick, a strategy that we talk about in great detail in our hair loss and regrowth discussion. If I had known then what I know now, I could’ve regrown my hair faster and reclaimed my general health at the same time in record time. In this book, Lydian and I set forth treatment options that will help you regrow hair quickly because your body will be getting the nutrients it needs, natural herbal remedies for hair loss, and treatments that will surprise you in terms of their broad spectrum of action against not just hair loss, but also autoimmunity and cancer too. Our hope is that as you address the root cause of hair loss, that you also learn about new medicines that you can use to protect yourself and your family from diseases and disorders that have become so common in every day life throughout the world.
But treating hair loss of any kind using topical treatments doesn’t address the core issue underlying why hair loss occurs. So we wanted to provide a workable model–a natural hair regrowth protocol–that average people can use at home to regrow their hair. This model addresses all of the most likely health issues that might be causing hair loss. For readers who are really serious about regrowing their hair, or making hair stronger, we recommend following a protocol that is similar to the protocol that we recommend for psoriasis patients because psoriasis has a strong connection to hair loss and issues regarding thinning hair. Also, the psoriasis protocol that we describe in our book of Psoriasis Cures has a scientifically proven cure rate above 80%. Indeed, there’s an interesting connection that we found between psoriasis and hair loss. We’ll talk about that next:
Psoriasis and Hair Loss: What’s the Connection?
Both psoriasis and hair loss involve the skin. And the skin, along with the liver, gallbladder, and kidneys, is an organ of detoxification. In other words, when our bodies are exposed to toxins, there are several organs that specifically work to remove those toxins. The skin, liver, gallbladder, and kidneys belong to this group of organs.
Hair, after all, can be analyzed in a lab to discover the toxins and drugs that a person has been exposed to as well as the nutrient deficiencies that that person has suffered from. So it isn’t a stretch for most people to imagine that hair loss might be caused by a toxin, or a pathogen that’s being exuded from the skin. Because nutrient deficiencies also show up in tiny shafts of hair, it isn’t hard to believe that a lack of certain nutrients might cause hair loss as well. In psoriasis patients, 8 times out of 10, the skin lesions are caused by the partially digested leftovers of peptidoglycans from streptococcal bacteria that have taken up residency in the liver, gallbladder, and sometimes in the kidneys after an initial infection. Bile normally will digest these peptidoglycans, but psoriasis patients are deficient in bile. Interestingly though, sunlight exposure has a positive, healing effect on the liver, so sunlight and seawater treatments are a powerful cure for psoriasis as well. And, as it turns out, sunlight exposure (without sunscreen) also plays a role in healing hair loss.
Several years ago, when we studied psoriasis, we were surprised to find that 1) there are special psoriasis treatment facilities that offer nothing but sunlight and seawater as the treatment–and the cure rate for these facilities is quite high and 2) that ox bile / bile salts are an over-the-counter, scientifically proven cure for psoriasis. Bile supplements work in 80% of cases to cure all types of psoriasis even as a stand-alone treatment. It took us more than a year to uncover this research. Combined with Chlorine Dioxide Solution as a powerful, yet totally non-toxic antibiotic treatment increases the odds that patients will cure psoriasis even higher. Most people with alopecia, thinning hair, bald spots, and various types of hair loss benefit from these therapies combined with Enzyme Therapy rather than just stand-alone ox bile treatments, which is something we’ll talk about in depth later on.
The fact that sunlight and seawater exposure could be used to cure psoriasis was mind-blowing to Lydian and me and we wondered about the connection between sunlight, seawater, and ox bile (which was a liver-supporting treatment). How was sunlight exposure connected to liver health? Once again, it took us months to find the answer. The connection came to use in the form of an herbal remedy for psoriasis: Fumaria officinalis, a plant that contains a natural form of fumaric acid. Fumaric acid is produced in the skin and in the liver to promote the phosphorylation of ADP to ATP, which are the most important energy packets produced by human cells to keep us alive and moving around. Though our skin naturally produces fumaric acid, the plant Fumaria officinalis produces it too and, if you live in an area that doesn’t get a lot of sunlight, you can take Fumaria officinalis to ensure that your fumaria intake stays balanced.
Fumaria officinalis is used by Ayurvedic practitioners in their herbal cures for alopecia because of the role fumaric acid plays in liver and gallbladder health and in turn, the health of the skin, hair, and nails. So we decided to give bonus points to Ayurveda as a model of medicine that uses natural cures for disease and that addresses the major aspects of treatment that hair loss sufferers need to address when they design a protocol for themselves to cure alopecia. Below, we use Ayurvedic cures for thinning hair, balding, and autoimmune hair loss to help our readers design a workable action plan based a well-established system of medicine to yield hair growth results within 6 months or less.
But before we talk about the Hair Regrowth Protocol, we need to explain the cycle of hair growth.
The Hair Growth Cycle
The hair growth cycle involves four basic steps:
- The Anagen Phase – This is the active growth phase for hair.
- The Catagen Phase – During this phase, hair is maintained in the hair follicle, but it stops growing.
- The Telogen Phase – During this phase, the hair shaft enters into a state of rest or dormancy.
- The Exogen Phase – During this phase, the fully grown hair is shed.
Typically, it takes about six months for a given hair shaft to go through the entire hair growth cycle. This means that it can take up to six months for a given hair loss treatment to demonstrate noticeable results. So, in order to treat hair loss naturally, it’s best to commit to a Hair Growth Protocol (which should ideally include several treatments that complement each other and that address the various root causes of hair loss) that you can maintain for no less than 6 months. After 6 months, you may need to tweak your Hair Growth Protocol and that’s okay. But don’t expect immediate results from hair loss treatments. With the exception of JAK-Inhibitor treatments for hair loss, most of the hair loss cures in this book will take at least 6 months to work because your hair will need to go through the entire cycle of growth before you’ll see results.
Using Ayurveda Treatments for Hair Loss: A Model for Healing
Ayurveda has a lot to offer in terms of natural, non-toxic hair loss treatments. This system of medicine, which comes from India, uses everything from leeches/hirudotherapy and blood-letting to oils and herbalism. Case studies into Ayurvedic cures for alopecia areata, androgenic alopecia, involutional alopecia, telogen effluvium have shown promising results which makes sense because Ayurveda doesn’t assume that autoimmune hair loss or other types of hair loss are untreatable conditions. In Ayurveda, alopecia areata is specifically correlated with Khalitya. The four doshas of Vata, Pitta, Kapha, and Rakta are all involved in this autoimmune hair loss disorder according to Ayurveda. So treatment for alopecia areata involves a very comprehensive approach in terms of healing. Our view of hair loss (including female pattern hair loss, male pattern hair loss, thinning hair, Lichen planopilaris hair loss, etc.) is that the best approach for healing involves a combination of detoxification, super-nutrition and supplements with enzyme therapies, herbal treatments, topical treatments, and vibrational/light-based treatments. Combining these various health-promoting strategies into one Hair Growth Protocol will inevitably yield results in terms of improved health overall, not just hair regrowth. The goal is to fix the underlying problem, after all, not just cover up the hair loss symptoms.
Hair Growth: Ayurveda and Beyond
Ayurvedic practitioners have documented the ability to restore normal hair growth in situations involving serious hair loss, but their treatments are different from those used in conventional medicine. Below is a short description and discussion of some of the Ayurvedic treatments for hair loss that have resulted in total restoration of hair growth in patients. In this discussion we cite various options that hair loss sufferers have in terms of how to achieve the goal of the noted Ayurvedic treatment. In other words, we’re using an Ayurvedic model for healing hair loss to delve into a discussion about other systems of medicine and other experts who have recommended the same physiological goals for treating hair loss.
In comparison with conventional medicine treatments for hair loss (such as Minoxidil 2%), Ayurveda, herbalism, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Orthomolecular Medicine offer a multifaceted, non-toxic, holistic hair loss treatment approach. These systems of medicine, after all, are designed to cure alopecia by addressing the underlying health issues that are causing the hair loss. Conventional medicine seeks to cover up the symptoms of disease and it is never a goal to cure diseases. Indeed, conventional medicine is capitalistic which means that the primary goal is for The System to make profits. And cures for diseases are not nearly as profitable as drugs that cover up the symptoms of disease. So if you actually want to improve hair growth, get rid of bald spots, and overcome any skin related issue, you have to address the issue from within, avoid conventional medicine treatments, and work to improve your overall health using a system (or systems) of medicine that are designed to cure disease permanently.
Ayurveda is one of those systems of medicine that can be used to cure hair loss. So let’s use this system of medicine as a model to describe the major facets of healing that can be used to overcome alopecia along with examples of various alternative medicines that patients might choose to use if they don’t have access to the Ayurvedic hair loss remedies that we describe.
Vamana is an Ayurvedic treatment has been used in combination with other Ayurvedic treatments with success to cure autoimmune hair loss / alopecia areata, but it might also be relevant as a treatment for androgenic alopecia or hair loss related to Lichen planopilaris.
Vamana involves controlled purgation to remove toxins from the areas of the body where toxins tend to accumulate (the liver and the gallbladder, for example). Purgation may involve induced vomiting, colon detoxification, and liver/gallbladder detoxification. Below we discuss ways to detoxify the body to the same degree as a Vamana treatment, but using other methods that might appeal more readily to Western sensibilities. But remember, Vamana has its advantages. When you go through a vomiting purge, the toxins and pathogens that leave the body via the stomach don’t travel first through the intestines on the way out of the body. In other words, vomiting leads to a faster detoxification process than some of the other detoxification methods we talk about below.
Liver and Colon Detoxification Discussion
Vamana resembles enema treatments like coffee enemas and colon hydrotherapy as a natural alopecia treatment that’s designed to remove toxins from the body. Colon hydrotherapy and enemas both work to remove toxins from the large intestine specifically, which has been shown to be useful as a supportive treatment for psoriasis, a serious and painful skin disease that’s related to alopecia. But coffee enemas have added benefits in terms of functioning as a hair loss supportive treatment because organic coffee enemas cause the liver and gallbladder to purge stones and toxins.
The Hulda Clark Gallbladder Cleanse for Hair Loss
Hulda Clark was an expert on parasite infections and how to rid the body of parasites naturally. She learned that parasites often took up residence long term in the liver and in the gallbladder and from those locations, parasites were able to wreak havoc on health. But even if you don’t have parasites (or don’t THINK that you have parasites), you can do the Hulda Clark Gallbladder cleanse to purge the gallbladder and liver of toxins and pathogens.
If you’re experiencing hair loss, you should definitely consider the possibility that you have a parasite infection. Parasites were a root cause of my hair loss. And I had parasites because I was Iodine Deficient, Bromine Toxic, and I had mercury amalgam fillings in my teeth that added yet another layer of toxic buildup in my body. I targeted parasites initially as a way to regrow my hair, but I wasn’t able to overcome the infection until I started taking Lugol’s iodine and vitamin B17. So I encourage readers to consider the possibility that they have a parasite infection that might be causing hair loss. Hookworms, for example, burrow into the skin and they are nearly ubiquitous. You need a certain number of hookworms in your intestines to keep your microbiome balanced. But a heavy look of hookworms can cause your body to become vitamin B12 deficient, which can cause you to lose your hair. The idea of that a parasite infection can cause hair loss might be repulsive to some readers and resonant with others. If you feel like you might have a parasite infection, work to treat it naturally as a part of your hair loss treatment. But if the idea of a parasite infection causing your hair loss sounds ludicrous, work with the holistic treatments that we recommend in this book instead. If you do that, your body will become less habitable to parasites and other pathogens naturally. So in either case, you should be able to overcome your hair loss.
The Hulda Clark Gallbladder cleanse is a potential alternative to the Vamana vomiting purge and it’s a good place to start if you’re suffering from alopecia. Do a Gallbladder Cleanse once a month for six months during your initial stages of hair loss treatment. The vomiting purge in Ayurveda is designed to do essentially the same thing that the Hulda Clark Gallbladder cleanse accomplishes but without vomiting.
Ayahuasca as a Liver/Gallbladder Cleanse
Ayahuasca is a purgative medicine used by indigenous tribes in Latin America to cure diseases that seem to be incurable. Many people who take Ayahuasca, a sacred indigenous medicine and an entheogen, experience a powerful purge that involves the gallbladder and the liver. Ayahuasca is also supposed to provide a powerful emotionally cleansing experience emanating from the core, which is not unlike the Vamana Ayurveda treatment for alopecia areata and other forms of hair loss.
Psoriasis sufferers also sometimes spontaneously recover if they do dialysis treatments, which demonstrates that there’s a relationship between skin and scalp and kidney health. Sometimes people experience hair loss as a result of doing dialysis too, which also demonstrates the relationship between kidney function and hair health.
Dialysis is a type of treatment that cleans the blood. Indeed the cure rate for dialysis treatments in psoriasis sufferers is between 20-50%, which is high as a stand-alone therapy. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) also acknowledges kidney problems as a reason for hair loss and other skin diseases. TCM also says that prolonged, severe stress can lead to kidney deficiencies which, in turn can lead to hair loss. So that strengthens the relationship even further between the kidneys as organs that detoxify the blood and the body, and skin problems like hair loss in its various forms (male pattern hair loss, female pattern hair loss, involutional alopecia, telogen effluvium, etc.). In a few paragraphs, we’ll talk about the use of Leech therapy as a blood purifying Ayurveda treatment that works with the kidneys as an unconventional treatment for hair loss.
Detoxify Your Environment
In this discussion, we talk in depth about how to quickly and easily remove toxins from your daily life to support the liver and the kidneys. Get rid of laundry detergents, cleaning products, bath soaps, and other products that act as endocrine disruptors, liver toxins, and cancer and autoimmune disease triggers.
Oleation / Oil Massage –
Ayurvedic massage that involves oils that penetrate the body in order to promote healing may be used to prepare patients with hair loss from the next step in the treatment process which often involves another round of detoxification. Ayurveda uses an array of oils to treat alopecia naturally and this makes sense because oils enhance the skin penetration of medicinal agents. Oils are naturally electrical and they have the ability (when applied to the skin), to change the alignment of epidermal cells (on the outer layer of skin) to make it possible for medicine to penetrate more deeply into the body. Natural, plant-based, organic, cold-pressed oils that have been properly stored contain natural medicinal agents that can be used to naturally treat androgenic alopecia, alopecia areata, thinning hair, and other forms of hair loss.
An all-over, whole-body massage with healing Ayurvedic oils means that your whole body is being treated with plant-based medicines. But there are a number of essential oils and herbal extracts that can be administered directly to the scalp as a natural alternative to Minoxidil or Tretinoin too. We’ll talk about some of the most important essential oils for hair loss in a later discussion.
Virechana is another type of purging that involves Ayurvedic laxative plant-medicines. This Ayurvedic therapy flushes toxins out of the body and gets rid of excess mucus in the gastrointestinal tract to improve digestion. It is used primarily in the treatment of skin disorders such as alopecia, rashes, allergies, and digestive issues.
Basti is the administration of medicine directly into the intestines.
People with hair loss might benefit from working with Chlorine Dioxide Solution / Miracle Mineral Supplement. Chlorine Dioxide Solution is a Reactive Oxygen Species medicine that ‘s used by many people to overcome supposedly incurable health conditions. It seems to work in part when all other treatments fail because the Chlorine Dioxide Solutions releases a superoxide ion that is highly reactive with pathogens that hide out in the liver, the gallbladder, the pancreas, and sometimes even in the brain. These areas of the body are not easy for prescription antibiotics to reach, but a tiny superoxide ion has special access to these areas of the body.
Lydian and I have worked with clients who have severe diagnoses such as HIV who used oral Chlorine Dioxide along with Chlorine Dioxide administered via enemas to cure HIV. If you are suffering from hair loss, Chlorine Dioxide Solution administered orally and via enema may be a good place to start to get rid of pathogens in the liver, gallbladder, or pancreas that are causing your hair to fall out and stop growing.
Pracchana is the practice of blood-letting in Ayurveda. I know, I know–this sounds extreme and barbaric, if not ill-advised for someone suffering from any disease including hair loss. But actually, blood letting is still practiced in conventional medicine in hospitals for diseases like Hemochromatosis, Porphyria Cutanea Tarda, and Polycythemia, it just goes by a different name: Therapeutic Phlebotomy.
Bloodletting does have therapeutic value. For those with hair loss, the therapeutic value of bloodletting likely lies in the fact that bloodletting reduces the viscosity of blood, which increases the oxygenation of tissues. But bloodletting may also have therapeutic effects as a natural treatment for alopecia via its effects on iron levels in the body. Iron levels and iodine levels in the body both impact thyroid hormone function. Later, we’ll talk in depth about the importance of iodine supplementation as a cure for all types of hair loss.
Blood flow and hair growth go hand in hand. Each hair follicle needs access to red blood cells that are carrying oxygen. If blood is “thick” or if red blood cells are “stuck together/stacked”, a common situation that happens in a variety of health situations, hair follicles may suffocate and not receive access to the necessary amount of red blood cells and to oxygen.
If bloodletting doesn’t seem like a type of treatment that appeals to you for hair loss, consider instead using some of the vibrational medicine therapies that can achieve similar results in terms of blood-flow dynamics without ever breaking the skin.
Though the idea of “stacked” red blood cells is not a well-known problem in conventional medicine, it is famous in certain circles. The problem of stacked red blood cells first became salient in conventional medicine due to studies conducted by NASA on astronauts in space. Dr. Isaac Goiz, a Mexican physician, took these studies to another level and developed an entirely new system of medicine called Biomagnetism that has been used to cure diseases like cancer and HIV. Patients with serious diseases tend to have stacked red blood cells that are visible and observable using dark-field microscopy. Indeed, certain types of infection like fungal infections or Babesia involve fine tendrils or even (in the case of Babesia) “nests” that form in the blood vessels, causing blood flow issues. Biomagnetism is a system of medicine that uses magnets in pairs to get rid of these nests, tendrils, and stacks of red blood cells.
Pulsed Electromagnetic Frequencies / PEMF
PEMF also uses magnets to alter the dynamics of red blood cell movement in the blood vessels. Red blood cells, after all, do contain iron, a metal, so they’re responsive to magnet treatments. PEMF has been studied scientifically as a natural treatment for alopecia with excellent results.
Beyond Ayurveda: Cures for Hair Loss
Ayurveda provides a good framework with which to begin in creating a holistic hair loss treatment that will not just regrow hair, but also enhance your overall health. But in addition to Ayurvedic remedies for hair loss, we also talk about important treatments like Iodine Therapy, Topical Vitamin B12 Supplementation, and L-Cysteine Supplementation. Iodine supplementation for hair loss is essential and many people won’t be able to regrow their hair without it because of the role that iodine plays in maintaining thyroid gland health.
And though there are many other herbal treatments for hair loss, one of the most important topical remedies is Nigella sativa, also known as Black Seed or Black Cumin. Nigella sativa contains a natural JAK Inhibitor known as Thymoquinone that has the potential to regrow hair quickly, within less than 2 weeks in some cases, depending on the underlying factors causing hair loss. The daily application of a plant medicine that contains a JAK inhibitor like Thymoquinone combined with the other natural treatments for hair loss that we recommend at AlivenHealthy can be used to treat androgenic alopecia, alopecia areata, telogen effluvium, alopecia universalis, involutional alopecia, and even Lichen planopilaris / Lichen planus infection.
New Research into Hair Loss Treatments
Even after I regrew my hair years ago, I’ve remained interested in hair loss treatments because treatments for hair loss are often treatments for other, underlying disease states too. A lot of our most recent research came about after we found (in the scientific literature), documentation of a simple, natural cure for psoriasis: ox bile or bile salt supplements. Bile salts and ox bile supplements have an 80% cure rate for all types of psoriasis. When used in combination with a few other treatments that we talk about in our book, The Psoriasis Cure, the odds of curing psoriasis go even higher. Importantly, hair loss and psoriasis share certain similarities and, at least in some cases, they might rooted in the same health issues. So, if you’re serious about restoring hair growth, learn a bit more about how to cure psoriasis and keep reading to learn more about the best natural cures for hair loss. Some of them might surprise you.
