Cure Female Pattern Baldness, Cure Male Pattern Baldness, and Cure Alopecia Areata Using Pueraria Plants
DISCLAIMER: CONSULT WITH A DOCTOR BEFORE DECIDING ON A TREATMENT PLAN FOR ANY DISEASE OR INJURY.
There are several herbs in the Pueraria family of plants that can be used to cure alopecia and regrow thinning hair. These include:
- Pueraria thomsonii / Pueraria thomsoni / Pueraria montana var. Chinensis
- Pueraria mirifica
- Pueraria thunderbergiana / Kudzu / Japanese Arrowroot
We’ll talk about each of these herbal remedies for androgenic alopecia more below:
Pueraria Flos / Pueraria thomsonii / Pueraria lobata
Pueraria Flos, the flowers from the Pueraria thomsonii plant, have been scientifically studied as an herbal hair loss remedy that can be used to regrow thinning hair. Scientists have identified Pueraria thomsonii as a potent herbal cure for androgenic alopecia. Studies show that Pueraria thomsonii (which is also known as Pueraria montana var. chinensis), works through a similar mechanism of action as Minoxidil 2%, but Pueraria thomsonii has an advantage in that this Minoxidil substitute works without causing serious side effects.
This plant-based medicine, Pueraria thomsonii has a potent inhibitory activity against 5-alpha-reductase, an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion from testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Minoxidil also works by inhibiting 5-alpha-reductase in the scalp. DHT tends to be problematic when it comes to hair follicles. This type of testosterone (DHT), is strongly attracted to hair follicles and it causes them to shrink in size which can cause hair loss or thinning hair patterns that are particularly associated with androgenic alopecia.
In one scientific study, a 50% extract of Pueraria Flos / Pueraria thomsonii was able to inhibit 5-alpha-reductase by 50%. It was more potent than the roots of Pueraria lobata, though both plant extracts are able to inhibit the negative effects of DHT on hair follicles.
Scientists determined that saponins such as soyasaponin I and kaikasaponin III were the active components that reduced hair follicle shrinkage through inhibition of DHT.
Pueraria thomsoni is a medicinal herb for androgenic alopecia can also be used as an herbal remedy for epilepsy. It can be used as a fever reducer, as an anti-diarrheal, and as an expectorant.
Pueraria mirifica extract is another herbal medicine that promotes hair growth in women through several different mechanisms of action. Pueraria mirifica is a powerful herbal remedy for menopause that works by balancing estrogen levels. One particular phytoestrogen in Pueraria mirifica, miroestrol mimics the safest natural estrogen in the body: estriol. This phytoestrogen, miroestrol, is able to modulate the effects of estrogen receptors. When natural estrogens in the body are low, the miroestrol in Pueraria mirifica interacts with estrogen receptors to increase estrogenic activity. When natural estrogens in the body are too high, the miroestrol in Pueraria mirifica interacts with estrogen receptors, to decrease estrogenic activity. Pueraria mirifica is the only plant that contains this important phytoestrogen which is 3000 times stronger than the phytoestrogens in soy. As such, it can be used during menopause as a powerful natural hormone replacement herb.
It’s important for this herbal remedy for hair loss to be used with Dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) to make sure that it is able to penetrate the skin. If you plant to combine Pueraria mirifica with DMSO, it’s important that you learn how to use DMSO safely and avoid using toxic hair-care products when you’re using DMSO as a topical agent on the scalp.

Human Follicle Dermal Papilla Cells proliferate in a dose dependent manner with Pueraria mirifica treatment. Concentrations of 10 to 100 micrograms/mL were able to boost hair growth significantly in scientific studies.
If you’re using the Pueraria mirifica hair growth oil recipes above as an herbal remedy for male pattern baldness, do not use more than 1 or 2 drops of DMSO because Pueraria mirifica is a plant medicine that has powerful effects on estrogen balance in women.
Pueraria lobata / Kudzu: Natural Involutional Alopecia Treatment
Pueraria lobata which is sometimes also referred to as “Kudzu” is another herbal remedy for hair loss that also works to maintain hair pigmentation and prevent hair from going gray. In other words, Pueraria lobata is an herbal treatment for hair loss due to aging. It works primarily by preventing new gray hairs from growing, so it may take some time for this treatment to show its final results. If you’re looking for a natural remedy for involutional alopecia or gray hair, note that iodine deficiency can lead to premature graying of the hair. Restoring iodine levels can not only prevent hair loss at an early age, but also prevent graying at an early age.
Also note that Mucuna pruriens is an Ayurvedic treatment for gray hair that can restore pigmentation even after the hair has gone fully gray.
Pueraria thunbergiana / Kudzu / Japanese Arrowroot: Herbal
Pueraria thunbergiana, also known as Kudzu or Japanese Arrowroot, is an herbal cure for alcoholism as well as for diabetes via its blood-sugar modulating effects. Studies have shown that deranged blood sugar levels can also cause hair loss because hair follicles are sensitive to blood-glucose levels, so it makes sense that Kudzu would work as a cure for alopecia areata, androgenic alopecia, involutional alopecia, and possibly other forms of hair shedding.
Puerarin is a component of the whole plant, Pueraria thunbergiana, that has a stimulating effect on melanogenesis via th cAMP/MITF-M signaling pathway. As such, Pueraria thunbergiana can also be used to prevent or get rid of gray hair naturally. As with Pueraria lobata, Pueraria thunbergiana is an herbal remedy for gray hair.
Kudzu has also shown promise as a natural treatment for the following diseases and disorders in addition to acting as an herbal treatment for hair loss:
- Cerebral ischemia
- Diabetes mellitus
- Myocardial ischemia
Additional Cures for Alopecia: The AlivenHealthy Living Database
The AlivenHealthy Living Database of Alternative Medicines and our Living Database of Essential Oils is now available by subscription. Currently our database of alternative medicines with links to scientific research along with our database of essential oil treatments for diseases are available by subscription. Our databases are “alive” and “living” because we add to them daily with new links to scientifically proven cures for diseases, treatments for serious injuries, disorders, mental health problems, and even natural alternatives in terms of insect repellants and sunscreens (for example). It has become more and more difficult to find this information through a search engine so we decided to make these databases available to the public so they can find the documented cures for diseases that we’ve been studying for years.
Also, consider downloading our package that includes The Psoriasis Cure and The Gallbladder as a book bundle to begin working with the core issues underlying hair loss.

When Lydian and I do research on a disease or disorder, we often find information about cures for other, unrelated diseases and disorders. Every day, we uncover scientific data and anecdotal reports of healing that we organize in several databases that have been our special, private tool that we use to keep track of cures for disease. Recently, we decided to make these databases into searchable tools that our readers can subscribe to as a special, private search engine of science and anecdotes of cures for everything from the common cold to autoimmune diseases and cancer.
Currently, there are two databases that are live: The Alternative Medicines Database and the Natural and Essential Oils Database. The Alternative Medicines Database contains links to scientific information about alternative medicine cures for sexual dysfunction and thousands of other diseases including data about herbs, nutrients, salts, Traditional Chinese Medicine remedies, Ayurvedic Medicine Remedies, and just about any cure for disease that doesn’t fall into the other Living Database Categories.
The Natural and Essential Oils Database distills (no pun intended) scientific data about essential oils to make it easy to find cures for disease that involve these powerful herbal remedies. We include information about rare essential oils that have been studied and we’ve gone through the effort to put information into the database from scientific articles citing certain essential oils as curative agents for multiple diseases. The search results are often surprising and a source of hope for users.
We add information and links to the Living Database of information daily which is why we call it a “Living” Database. Subscribe now by following this link and then clicking “Sign Up”.
