Biomagnetic cancer therapy (also known as Medical Biomagnetism, the Biomagnetic Pair, or Terrain Restoration Therapy) makes use of magnets to boost the patient’s own self-healing abilities. Magnets can be used to repolarize cancer cells, diminish inflammation, enhance the immune system, increase circulation and oxygenation in the body, and reduce pain. Biomagnetic Therapy has been used to treat a variety of chronic degenerative diseases including:- osteoarthritis
- fibromyalgia
- migraines (transcranial magnetic stimulation) [1][2][3][11][12].
The theory of medical biomagnetism was developed by Isaac Goiz, a Mexican doctor who graduated in 1977 as an Obstetric Surgeon. He worked in a variety of different medical settings prior to becoming a doctor. After he graduated, he did several certification courses and received degrees in alternative medicine, including Dr. Richard Broeringmeyer’s Energy Therapy course. He developed his theory of biomagnetism in 1988 after taking Dr. Broeringmeyer’s course and working on an HIV patient who was dramatically improved by the placement of a biomagnetic pair. Dr. Goiz noted that a variety of complex diseases (including cancer) resulted from changes in the pH level which led to the presence of pathogenic viruses, fungi, and bacteria. Biomagnetic therapy uses two magnets of opposite charges to restore a patient’s pH balance to normal [2][3][8]. The placement of the biomagnets are determined through consideration of related acupuncture points on the body [11].
Biomagnetic cancer therapy attempts to re-establish the normal cellular environment by using pairs of medium-intensity magnets to re-equalize the patient’s normal pH levels. The normal pH level for good health is close to 7.4, which slightly alkaline. This pH level helps prevent the growth of invading microorganisms in the body as well as the normal functioning of human cells. A patient with a body that’s too acidic will be prone to virus and fungus infections. A patient with a body that’s too alkaline will be prone to inflammation, pain, and bacteria or parasite infections [2].

Studies on Biomagnetism have shown that this therapy works through the human bio-energetic field. Research has shown that pathogenic organisms in a petri dish are not affected by the presence of magnets. However, a study done in Malaga, Spain on 265 patients with a variety of different diseases demonstrated that biomagnetism was successful overall.

Dr. Raymond Hilu, who hosted Dr. Goiz’s opportunity to test Biomagnetism in May, 2009, says,
“ It is one of the most effective therapies that I have seen in all my years of practicing medicine. The most surprising part is its simplicity. And its main advantage is that it has no side effects. The only problem that it sometimes presents as the diagnosis, because Dr. Goiz’s diagnosis was frequently different from what the patient actually had. But this doesn’t bother me, because the important thing is that the patient gets better as a result of the treatment. And what I’m concerned with isn’t so much knowing exactly what the patient has, but rather seeing that the patient gets better or is fully cured. Politics
This therapy was developed in Mexico and though it is relatively well-known in that country, it is less well-known in the United States. Because there is no funding allocated by the pharmaceutical companies to research Biomagnetism, it is difficult to find research to support its effectiveness, which is not to say that it is effective (or that it’s not effective), but rather, just that very little research has been done on this therapy.

Safety and Effectiveness
Biomagnetic therapy uses medium-intensity magnets to neutralize or alter the pH and create an environment that is inhospitable to invading pathogens. The treatment is painless and non-invasive. There are no side effects from treatment and, except in cases where other electromagnetic therapies are being used for diagnosis or treatment, biomagnetism can be used in conjunction with other therapies. Patients often see results within days or weeks of beginning treatment [2].Altering the pH of the body to an alkaline state is one of the most reliable ways to treat cancer naturally. The pH level of the body is related to electrical energy in the body as pH is a measure of positive and negative ions in a watery solution. As such, the use of oppositely charged magnets for cancer treatment makes sense given Dr. Keith Brewer's scientific research into the use of Cesium for cancer. Cancer treatment using magnets as pairs that are located at specific acupuncture points on the body is just another way to alter the pH of the body to make the body inhospitable to cancer.

In a study that was conducted in Malaga, Spain, patients who had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and cancer saw the most dramatic health improvements from the use of Biomagnetism Therapy with Dr. Goiz. Of particular interest was the fact that the patients who had been previously diagnosed with cancer by other doctors, were diagnosed by Dr. Goiz as having an infection of some kind. Dr. Goiz diagnosed these patients as having abscesses, cysts, hematomas, or other physiological issues related to the presence of pathogens such as Enterobacter cloacae or Listeria [4]. The idea that cancer is ultimately caused by a pathogen is supported by other theorists who have developed cancer cures such as Dr. Gaston Naessons, Dr. A. How Biomagnetic Cancer Therapy Is Administered
The Biomagnetic Pair of magnets is used to detect, classify, measure, and correct the pH balance of living organisms [3][8].Two magnets of medium-intensity (1,000-4,000 gauss) are applied to the body at specific locations. These specific locations (there are 350 of them) were identified to correspond to a number of different diseases (including cancer) by Dr. Goiz. The two areas of the body where the magnet pairs are placed have energetic connections. Sometimes, in complex conditions, more than one pair of magnets is placed on the body. The magnets are put in place and left there for 15 to 20 minutes to re-establish the body’s pH balance. [2][3][8].
As a cancer treatment, the Biomagnetic Pair is placed on the body to help promote a healthy pH and restore blood flow and other blood elements to normal. According to Biomagnetic Therapy, cancer patients have a more acidic pH [3]. Patients receive the treatment and infectious organisms in the blood are then cleared away. In one study, patients diagnosed with Salmonella typhi (Typhoid Fever) saw significant improvement through the use of magnets and Biomagnetism Therapy [9].

Possible Negative Effects
Patients need to be aware that magnets can interfere with certain medical devices such as pacemakers and insulin pumps. Magnets shouldn’t be used during pregnancy or on patients who have undergone chemotherapy within the past 12 months [1][2].Patients undergoing Biomagnetism Therapy may experience a healing crisis over the 24 to 48 hours following treatment with magnets. Symptoms of the healing crisis could include:

- Sweating
- Fatigue
- Headache
